just joined seti team

howdy!

seti is best run with the command line version of the client, just leave it cracking away. if you're a GUI person then i suggest you let it run all the time and do not watch the graphics. sure, they make look nice, but they take up a lot of processor time. we're talking double the work load here. if you have it run as screensaver only then you should go into the settings on the screensaver control panel and tell it to blank screen in less than 5 minutes. if you're really hardcore you can also use caching software to make sure that you are still cracking when the seti servers are down.

Welcome worthless1! Glad to have you on the TeAm!! 🙂😀

It might help to post your hardware specifications as well as your Work Unit times and version of SETI. Then we can tell if you are in the ballpark.

Well Elfenix covered the tips on the client. Not much to do really just run the cli.🙂

As for tweaks in windows just make sure all the power saving features are turned off, don't run any screensaver & stop all unecessary programs.

Hardware wise overclocking is of course the best way to get faster times. If you happen to be running an unlocked cpu seti responds best to higher fsb not multiplier. So go for the highest fsb you can achieve then start bumping the multiplier up till you have it maxed out. Also seti is very memory dependant so running your ram at Cas2 with all the fastest memory timings possible will help as well.

You'll want SetiSpy to monitor the client with, it's a great little program.

You may also want to check out SetiDriver. It allows you to download several wu's at once. The benefit of this is if your net connection or the seti servers go down (which they're known to do quite a often) you won't run out of wu's & can keep crunching. This will help your production alot over the long run.🙂

Welcome to the best team on the planet!

(And maybe on other planets as well, that's what we're looking for!)
