It's so much faster than Win2k. It feels snappier and the programs start faster. Really didn't think that it would be an improvment, cuz normally:

If(OS_NOW > OS_BEFORE)
{
system = "slower";
}

But I really like WinXP so far....

/me goes now testing the games...

i agree, i installed it and it didnt do much for me, im not going to wait 3 months while people make drivers and everything for it. imma stick with win2k till then.

as you can see in my rig, I have a voodoo 3, and I just played Max Payne... runs a tad slower, but I'm gonna upgrade it soon to a Radeon 8500 if it becomes available ;)

I too just installed my OEM copy of Win XP last night. I too think it is "faster" than Win2k, also I really like the new look

I like XP a lot. Win2k was good, but not as solid as NT 4.0. XP seems to be a nice point release for 2k. Knock it all you want, I'm digging the Fisher-Price interface.

yeah, I really like xp allot. I never did like win 2000. too slow and the driver support sucked.
I am not a big mircosoft fan but they did pretty good on this os.

Yeah, as much as I loved Win2000 I think I'd have a hard time to go back to the "old" UI. It's hard to describe why I like WinXP better to people, since it's the little touches that make it better (and there are so many of them). I don't want to make a huge crazy statement, but...I would say that WinXP is closer to being the perfect OS than anything else out there :Q

I agree with that... XP is nothing more than 2K with the "Fisher-Price interface" ... and that's the only reason I switched

I feel that 2k was much like a rough draft of a user-end operating system (I know it was designed for corporations, networks, etc) and XP took the stability of 2k and added some little tweaks to it.

did the upgrade from 2k last night, plan on doin teh ful format today...AWESOME OS! like others have said its the little things. i once fancied myself as a lover of the "stripped-down" gui to save every last system resource and mb of memory. now that i have a solid comp (tbird 1.4) i feel i can "enjoy" all the little tweaks...now to try some games!

I have been running the RC's and installed the final build 2 days ago.
It uses more ram than 2000, but I really like it so far.
The new start menu features where it hides inactive/non used stuff in your systray, and not having all the icons on the desktop really make things look much more neat.

My reaction to the "kiddie" GUI went through these 3 steps:

1 - LOVE: it was new and fun to use
2 - HATE: it was too kiddy and clunky
3 - LOVING ACCEPTANCE: realized how intuitive and time saving it is

WinXP is the first time I didn't have to have a double layer of taskbar (two programs heights) thanks to the grouping of apps. I'm finally able to keep the taskbar always on top without sacrificing too much screen space. I think WinXP will go over very well with the avg. comsumer and will keep most people from considering switching over to Linux.

Ndee, what drivers are you using for your V3?

I've tried a crapload of drivers, including old 3dfx Win2K drivers, and some homemade stuff, but nothing seems to work very good.

The new interface is the worst pile of crap I've ever seen BTW, I tried to use it, thinking I just needed to get used to it, but all I got was a headache, it was utterly impossible to do anything productive with it.

I recently upgraded from windows 2000 to windows XP. Seems a lot faster. Plus my radeon runs alot better....I had some freaky issues with my old radeon (in 98 and 2000), with XP all the problems are gone. Only problem is scanner isnt working too good, as soon as its officially released to the public Im sure updated drivers will start to appear. All in all, this has been a great deal. Btw, I did an upgrade first....then later a full format....seems way faster after the full format.
