Ok, here's my rig.

t-bird 900
abit kt7-raid (sorta regretting this as of late)
256mb micron ram
geforce2 GTS 64mb
Maxtor 30gig ata100/7200rpm drive

So, being the dummy that I am, I installed win2k on my regular IDE channel. So, when I tried to switch to ata100, I got a blue screen on boot concerning my hpt.sys drivers.

Anywho.. I just left them on the ata66 IDE, cuz I figured that would be great enough. Then I find out win2k doesn't support ata66 initially.. weird. So, I read up, and I do the registry hack. Still nothing. In HDtach still getting 30-32mb/s burst HD speed. So, at this point I have nothing to lose anyway, so I install SP2 beta. Reboot, works like a charm. So, check my HD, it's reporting UDMA still. So I run HDtach again.. same speeds. WTF?

I checked, and my registry hacks are still in place. Should they be removed for the SP to take effect? I don't understand. I guess I can try hooking back up to ata100 again and see if it will boot.. but if anyone has any light to shed on this subject, I'd appreciate it much. Thanks.

Well yo2tup, I didn't get to it lastnight, but this morning I went ahead and tried to run the hotfix. It wouldn't install and gave me a message similar to this:

This hotfix is for versions of service pack 1 or earlier. You currently have SP2 beta.. etc etc...

Is there a DIFFERENT hotfix for SP2 that I need? Still a bit confused.

I can get my HD up to about ata66 speeds by cranking up my FSB, but heh, I'd rather not :D

Well, after all that crap I've went to, I figured I had nothing more to lose, so I disabled ACPI from within windows. After about 6 reboots, reinstalling drivers for most of my hardware, I ran a benchmark and now getting way above par socres for my HD.

Also, it freed up a lot of IRQ's, but after I removed ACPI my via DMA IDE Channels in device manager were not working because windows reinstalled the standard IDE controllers which used the same resources. So I just removed the via ones.. and its running NICE now :)
