Just updated the bios in my msi k7t turbo, tested it with my old athlon 1.4, worked fine
popped in the xp1700, no post
msi's website says that the 1700 is supported on this board... what could be the problem???

Probably the CPU is either not seated correctly - no POST usually is no CPU. Since nothing else was changed, I lean towards that. Doesthe XP1700 require extra power directly?

Check all of the cables and connections in case you've accidently bumped some of them during the install. And make sure the CPU fan is plugged into the right connection.

I just put a 2000+ in my K7t turbo with raid 3.30 I think.
Double check the seating of the cpu and make sure the heatsink is on right. Also make sure the cards are properly seated.

Good luck with it.

Try clearing the CMOS as well after you`ve the XP 1700+ correctly fitted etc.

clear cmos battery. use your old processor. get bios update, then plug the new proc.
also check your board revision number then compare it to the site.

Perhaps you have your heatsink on backwards. Refer to post #3 here for an illustrated guide to that possibility. Also, refer to page 2-4 of the manual and see if you need to change your CPU jumper settings. If your 1.4GHz Tbird was a 100MHz-based version, you'd want to do this anyway in order to run your AthlonXP at the proper 133MHz bus speed. Good luck! :)

i would try clearing the CMOS. a lot of times that will fix the problem, no matter what it is.

Yea you'd be surprized at how effective clearing CMOS is for solving problems like this.

The manual says there is. The 100/133 jumper is depicted on page 2-4 of the manual. Worth checking, anyway. There were both 100-based and 133-based Thunderbird 1.4's, but the AthlonXP is a 133-based part, so it might already be correct, or it might not. Can't tell based on what you told us so far.

Also, are you sure your board is a K7T Turbo 2 and not the older K7T Turbo?

hmm
i think it's my mistake
on the msi page it said that the k7t turbo supports up to xp1700+
it didn't say anything about palomino or tbred
my xp1700 is a tbred, probably why my comp won't post....

I can't get my old K7T turbo to work with any XP cpu either, think it's a lost cause at this point :(.
