So i selfindulged myself with getting new Intel 530 SSD 240GB for Christmas. As it is now, inside my rig i have 2x Intel X-25M SSDs 80GB (one for Windows and apps, the other strictly for games),then 2x 2TB WD HDDs for storage, and now this brand new SSD. Just plugged it in, its still in the unallocated space mode.

I bought it mostly to replace that 80GB SSD dedicated to games, as even though i dont play games as much i used to, when i was younger, on occasion i would like to try something new, but whoops, new games require 30, 40, 50 GB of space to install. So the old SSD does not cut it anymore and i did not really want to install them on those HDDs. Not sure if its possible anyway, cause majority of my games are Steam bound, and i have Steam folder on said 80GB SSD.

Now comes the catch - i thought i am just going to clone the data from that 80GB SSD to this new 240GB SSD, thus getting much more space to install new games - BUT now i keep reading cloning will actually transfer entire partition, so all i will get is a 80GB big partition on this new SSD? Thus it wont really fix my issue of having not enough space for Steam and the only solution for me is basically uninstall Steam with all its games from the old SSD and install it again onto new SSD, thus i dont really need to clone anything at all?

Hope i made myself clear.

One more question, i just added unintentionally drive letter to that 100MB to that System Primary Partition on my main SSD, which is usually inaccesible, but now thanks to adding letter to it i can access it. Can i remove the letter (there is option to do it) to make it inaccessible again? Or will i screw Windows or something else by doing it?

Thanks in advance

I recently used EASUS to clone a smaller SSD to a larger one. When you do the clone process it allows you to set the destination partition size so it will be one large partition. Even if it did create the 80GB with whatever method you used you can just expand the volume to use the remaining space.

Thank you!

I was going to use Intel Date Migration Soft, hmm....
one more question to you, do i need to format the destination drive beforehand or its possible to clone data onto it even if its still unallocated?

This. And EaseUS Todo Backup is a great piece of free software. I have done this several times without issue.

Hurrah, i think i made it. There was a choice of proportional cloning in case of different size of source and destination drives. Already cloned the disk to the new one and now there are 175 GB of space left for additional games. Better than 25GB i had on the old one before. Everything seems to work fine as well, i changed the letters of drives and Steam will run just fine off this new disk.

Thanks to both of you!

Thanks for the follow-up (too many people don't). Enjoy your new drive!
