Just upgraded from a 3500 venice to this opty 175 and starting programs like CPU-Z and Coretemp seems to not work when I first turn on my computer, and last time this happened I got an error message saying there was a driver problem. I thought procs didn't need drivers... or am I an idiot?

Windows has to install the dual core driver for it to work right and it should do it all by itself on the first bootup. You can bring up device manager and see if it shows two cores and if not tell it to scan for hardware changes.

Yeah on first boot windows told me that my new device had been installed, but that I had to reboot. I rebooted, and I can see that there's two cores running. Is this all I need?

almost...you should install the amd cpu driver and the amd dual-core hotfix. they are both on amd.com, so you should be fine.
