Not sure what you mean. Digital copies expire? I never wanted to use the DC included with any of my movies because I believe it can add second-hand value to my movies if the codes aren't used...but that's worthless if they expire!

That's why they expire. Disney is apparently working on a Steam-style system of distribution. One account, install on unlimited devices for personal use.

Exactly my thought. You bought and own the disk copy. Man up and rip it to YOUR liking. No expiration date on that.

The fine print said " cannot be guaranteed redeemable after 11/17/10"

Im assuming it will immediately expire but they appear to leave it open for challenges, especially since the expiration date is not explicitly listed on the exterior of the packaging even though it clearly markets itself as containing a valid digital copy

People who are too cheap to pay for movies so they pirate them instead fail at life. If these people didn't exist, DRM wouldn't be needed but we know these cheapskate bastards will never go away, so DRM will always be around.

These are probably the same people that say today's music sucks so they don't want to pay for it but have already downloaded these sucky songs for free...wonder how many posters here fit this category???

Uhh its really NOT that hard to do with current software out there. With a decent 4 core CPU it doesn't take that long either (faster than realtime I'm pretty sure). Even if you have a slow CPU, nothing says you can't queue a few files to convert overnight while you sleep.

Complexity? This isn't DVD ripping in the 90's where you had to do a bunch of video/audio de/re encoding and multiplexing...programs now practically do the whole thing for you. As far as the time as concerned, you start it up and walk away. It's not like you need to stare at the progress bar.

I haven't seen one come out to more than 30gb yet. Most are between 10 gb and 20 gb. Storage is cheap and plentiful too, so it's not as great of a concern as it seems.

This. I have tons of those stupid digital copies which just sit there collecting dust. If I wanted to watch it on my PC, I'd rip the damn Blu-Ray in the first place.

I encode mine to x264 at about 15-20Mbps. I can't really tell the difference above that and it's makes them ~15GB each which is perfectly manageable.

Takes 3 min each to set up. Go to bed, and oh my goodness you have a movie.
