Just installed MandrakeLinux 10.0...

I'm in shock. Never ever was an OS install so easy. I need linux for my school later this year so I thought I might install Mandrake 10.0 on my IBM T42p. After the installation, I didn't need a single additional driver and everything is working so far. Sound, Mousewheel, video card in the native resolution with 3d acceleration, network, just EVERYTHING. And KDE 3.2 looks SO nice, I gonna post a screenshot later on 🙂

I was going to install Linux but got too busy. When I think about it, it just doesn't seem to offer anything over WinXP.

For school I just use SSH to log in and program remotely

But I'd like to see the screen shot!

Is this available to the general public...or do you have to be a registered member or whatever? I'd like to load it on one of my machines...

The CD Burner software that comes with it also automagically recoginzed the CD burner and I can just burn CDs. Unbelieveable 😀

Watch out for ALSA - some soundcards (such as my audigy) it sets the default out to the optical lines. Can be rectified with ALSAMIXER and then use ALSACONF (< something similar to that anyway, tab for it) to save config for bootup use.

Kernel 2.6 does have a few issues with USB mice on Mandrake Linux 10...bizzare. That and I prefer Slackware anyway.

Where have you been OP? KDE 3.x has always looked this good, and its quite responsive with 2.6.
