Just installed Linux Mandrake 7.2!

Hey everybody 🙂

I just installed Linux-Mandrake 7.2 for the very first time. I actually must have done something right, because I'm connected to the internet, using their Konqueror web browser. The only thing I *don't* like so far is how small the fonts are when I'm browsing - but I'm learning, and I'll figure it out sooner or later.

I'm just happy I made it this far. KDE is looking pretty good these days!

Your font problem is caused due to the lack of True Type fonts. There should be a how-to available to tell you how to use the windows true type fonts under linux.

I'm liking it quite a bit so far... I have some getting-used-to-it to do, and Enlightenment throws me for a useless loop. But, since I'm in the learning stage, I feel I'm doing okay for now. 🙂

Soybomb,

Thanks for the tip on the font HOW-TO. I think it'll be a few days at least before I'm that brave, at least for now. I've tried Linux before (although admittedly never on a network, only with a modem) and usually fail miserably, so I feel this time I've done quite well so far! But I appreciate the reminder to check HOW-TO's - is the best place www.linuxhowto.org?

Thanks,
James

I'm pretty sure the main site for the Linux Documentation Project is at http://linuxdoc.org but I could be wrong, or the site you're viewing may just be a mirror.

This should tell you how to do it (I'm assuming mandrake 7.2 uses Xfree 4.0, I think so but I'm not a mandrake expert 😉 Just copy your fonts dir from your windows drive.......

Thank you!! I got it working... I even installed Netscape 6. Quite the feat for me. I never thought I'd say that Netscape has been the best I've tried, but so far that's true. A strange twist.

Also strange is my clock, which now says 00:00. 🙂

So I assume your fonts look better now? 🙂

You might want to go to www.mozilla.org and try it, I've found its a bit nicer to use than netscape on the whole, opera is also cool but buggy in some cases.
