Just installed a DVD-ROM drive 12x/40x. Does DVD have to be set as Master?

Ok, I just installed my new DVD drive I bought from CompUSA, it came in a Hi-Val box. The model # shown under Device Manager shows as MT1316 BDV212B. I looked up BDV212B and found a DVD drive made by BTC it seems, I think I have heard of them before. Anyway, I was trying to use this program "CDSpeed99" via www.cdspeed2000.com, and I was only able to do a DAE test at no more than 8x, also, I was using AudioGrabber, and it only detected the drive as a max of 8x for ripping as well. The box says that you need to set the drive as master on a IDE channel, I have it currently set as Primary Slave, is this a problem with DVD drives? If you can give me some info, please do, thanks 🙂

The master/slave thing shouldn't be a problem. You should note that DAE extraction isn't quite the same as regular data transfer (the 40x part). Its been a while since I've looked at specs for DVD or Cd drives but I think a 8x DAE isn't all that bad.

Nope it doesn't...

I have my Harddrive and CDR drive as Masters and my DVD drive as slave.... it has been running like this for 2 years now and I dont have a single problem...

Well, it just seems that when I put an Audio CD in the drive, it automatically locks the drive at 8x speed, like I said using CDSpeed99, even if I change it to MAX, or 40x, when I go back in, it's at 8x again. The speed test with a 74 min Audio CD starts at around 7.6x at the very beginning, and doesn't fluctuate more than .1x throughout the whole CD, this sounds peculiar to me as my Plex 12/10/32 CDRW drive goes from like 15.5-33.5 on the same CD. I think I'm just gonna package it up and return it tomorrow. I think I'll get that 16x Toshiba from newegg.com for $70 shipped, that one sounds like a weiner.

I've found that DAE is that great on that toshiba drive! 🙁

You serious? The DAE on the Toshiba sucks ass too? Oh god, and I was gonna use it for my reader too. 🙁
