I am trying to upgrade my hard drive from a Seagate Medalist (8.4 Gb) to a Maxtor 40 Gb. The problem is that I have a compaq (Oops, and I do mean oops) the bios therefore does not recognize it no matter what I do. Other people on their message board have had the same problem and gotten a generic response to it (e.g. Make sure that the jumper is set right type thing) do you guys (or gals) have any ideas????

Thank for any help you may be able to offer,

I noticed down lower that someone was sortof having the same problem here Is it possible that I am having the same problem (40 Gb too big), does Maxtor have an "overlay" program????

Thanks again

Have you updated the BIOS yet? That should work. I had the same problem with an old EPOX mobo so I flashed the newest BIOS revision, and it worked like a charm.

Good luck 🙂

OR...forget the overlay software. Get an ata66 PCI card ($20??) that has it's
own BIOS and can handle up to 128 gigs.........

Thanks for the responses and sorry about the delay. I figured it out....

I was looking at the jumpers (Master Slave Cable Select) upside down so when I wanted it set as Master I was setting it as slave and vice-versa. I have it working perfectly now, thanks again.
