What I wonder is if this is an indication that such calls will be possible over 3G, and not just wifi. I would like for the former to be the case, but given ATT's network I won't be shocked if it is wifi only in the states.

jailbreak 3g unrestrictor should make quick work of that . and tethering.

like at 9pm - youtube sucks at 3G oversaturated on weekend evenings - not sure if its AT&T but over wifi it doesn't suck.

it is very frustrating to pay for 3G and expect a simple operation to work and then have it fail - they might as well remove the option.

I was thinking this junky vivotek camera i got off ebay supports SIP for voice and mpeg-4/mjpeg i wonder if i could proxy that off ipad to make voice calls.

I cant use youtube on my iphone with wifi, if freezes EVERYTIME and just never starts again, stupid icon in the middle of the screen just sits and spins. If i put it on 3g, its fine.

I think its more about the front facing camera than anything, and you can easily tie in video chat.

Yea, I guess I'm not the target. I've had an iSight on my laptop for years, and can count on one hand how many times I've used video chat.
