My 16/10/40 died 2 weeks ago. Went to Plextor site, filled out the RMA request form, and then received an email with an RMA number 2 days later. I sent the drive back to them the next day. I'm thinkin 2-4 weeks I'll get mine back fixed. NOPE, 8 days later I get a brand new drive. Popped it in and it works like a dream, burnin 80 min cd-rs in 5 min.
I must say that I was very impressed with the turn-around time it took for me to get my problem solved. I hope everyone has a similar experience.
