Seriously, while I know there are probable statistics on the web, but I just wanna know why it is that they print that label everywhere? What about people who are lactose intolerant? Or are allegic to strawberries? I never see those warning labels.

They do nuts becuase somtimes you cant tell. Certain food has nuts on them because they were made on the same machine. Its also so if you die thats your fault.

just how much of the US population don't know that HOT Coffee or hot tea is supposed to be HOT?

The warning label is everywhere! Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, McDonalds.

(I'm going to sue all of them for lying, the cup said. "CAUTION BOILING HOT" yet when I drank it 5 hours after purchasing the said coffee, it was almost ICED COLD... that's gross false advertising)

as a result of her allergic reaction one day, the school started forbidding lunches brought from home that had peanut butter or peanut by-products.

When I was a camp counselor there was a girl who went into shock because she stepped on a Jelly Belly which apparently may have traces of peanut oil. I can't imagine being so allergic to something so common.

That's just not possible. Most peanut allergies are to the protein, which isn't present in the oil. Also, the protein needs to be ingested for a fatal reaction, or inhaled for a moderate reaction.

Psychosomatic FTW

The reason peanut warnings are all over the place is that they tend to be the fatal kind (even in small amounts). Also as someone else mentioned if chopped up fine they are hard to spot.

Also if you chop peanuts on a cutting board and then chop something else on it that could trigger a reaction in someone in spite of what they ordered not containing peanuts. That is why you will often see the blanket warning of "Peanuts are used here, all items may contain peanuts" or something like that I don't remember the exact warning.

Yea, I think it's the fact that the peanut allergies kill kids, whereas I believe lactose etc are just going to make their stomach ache and some gas develop

You would be surprised how many people are allergic to things like peanuts. I know several people myself. My brother is deathly allergic to peanuts and eggs. If you read the labels on all the foods at the grocery store, it is quite shocking how many products have these ingredients. Products that you would never think may have these ingredients, or at least traces of them. Without those warnings, it would be very easy for a lot of people to have severe allergic reactions after eating things that they think are safe.

If you're that allergic to a common substance then you need to be either home schooled, encased in a plastic bubble, or both.

That's a very insensitive comment. Everyone has issues in their life that they have to try to deal with.

It was an insensitive comment, but banning PB&J sandwiches because of 5 people in a school of say 300-500 or more is retarded. The school should just be more careful if it's that serious of a problem.

Of course. But if I'm deathly allergic to wheat, I'm not going to make everyone around me stop eating wheat.
