The day after Thanksgiving shopping that is? What's it called? Black Friday? Is it really that bad? Is it worth it for the deals you get?

Seriously....it's more fun when you go out and do it with family to be social. That's why there are soo many people. They're just tryin' to hook suckas wit da deals. You'll probably spend more thinking that you're saving money..... The trick is to take a set amount of cash and not buy with credit...that way you won't get pulled in. Most of the best deals are to be had before 8am or so...die hard stores usually open at 5 or 6am that day.

Yeah, I was thinking that unless I saved hundreds, I would rather pay more than deal with the crowds! :)

AND I am not planning on spending all that much...I just hope Skoorbie is! :p

Ever seen those parody commercials with two women fighting over a scarf? Playing tug of war w/it, kicking each other? That's what happens at the regular-priced merchandise tables. God help you if you are bold enough to venture over to the Big Sale tables. Bring your nunchucks, spear and throwing stars. Wear a bulletproof vest and keep you hair up. Long hair is easy to pull. :Q

The BIG discounts are generally given during a timeperiod. I.E. "54" Sony TV for only $999!!!! Regularly $1,999!!, but only from 0600-0800!" <---they have three of them for sale, and there are 300 people sleeping at the door of store for 12 hours BEFORE THEY OPEN.

Dont' bother.

The day after Thanksgiving is easily the worst shopping day on the planet.

However there are alot of discounts. If you can stand a mob of crazy shoppers and alot
of people complaining. Than go for it.

Just Amazon.com it. Newbies in the US should not go out onto our streets. There are crazy people all over the place. Wait for the handsome Fed Ex or UPS guy to bring your stuff to the door ;)

why fight other women, just have a club to bludgeon them before the fight can start, and have Skoorb in your off-hand to parry incoming blows. :D

I heard on the radio that it's all hype and the busiest day of the shopping season is actually the Saturday before Christmas, when all men, (who have spent their time thinking of a most thoughtful gift) waste their day buying everything....

You can also watch another "foreigner" to the US in a film called Jingle All the Way. You will be "pumped" up and ready to tackle any situation as you are going around in Kmart, Sacks fifth avenue or the ever so crazy Macy's.

Personally I will be takin my girl (or at least try to) to the New Victoria Secret store in Manhattan :D

Its pretty bad, last year I was working at BB on friday. BB opened an hour early beacuse of the amount of people outside. Supposed to open at 7am and opened at 6am. It was a giant mob running through the doors. By 7 though people were coming in bitching that BB opened 7 and there wasn't anythinf left. You should have been here at 5am with the 400 people. I no longer work at BB, but I was thinking of partaking in some of the "fun"

My wife does this every freakin' year!

Her main motivation is the free stuff that the first however many people get when the store opens. She has an itinerary that maps out which store opens at what time, what free gift they're giving, and what order she should hit them. She even has, in the past, devised countermeasures, should she be delayed for some reason.

But it doesn't end there... oh no...

Then, after getting all the free gifts that she can get her hands on, she takes a short break to grab some breakfast, and then goes back to the very same stores she's already been to before, so that she can take advantage of all the great bargains.

I made the mistake of going with her one year.

NEVER AGAIN!!!

The freakin' old ladies are the worst! They show no remorse... throwing elbows... running over you with shopping carts... fighting for something that you both grab at the same time... stealing stuff out of unsuspecting people's carts...

NEVER AGAIN!!!

This was posted in another thread, but I think it bears repeating... :D

There is something very upsetting to me watching two people fight over merchandise. I've been at a flea market before and when the gate opened people were actually running and pushing each other. I guess some people don't mind acting like rabid animals!

And thanks to the accounts here I don't believe that myself or MrsSkoorb have any desire to witness it all first hand.

At Walmart you can get an Xbox with 3 games for $199. Regular 2 games, but they are throwing in a snowboarding one.

Some people thrive on the stress of it, but you couldn't pay me to go out there.
