Moderation, my friend. Nothing is going to happen to you if you eat only 1 bag a week.

yup, mainly its carbs i guess..and salt. get kettle cooked ones, much nicer, cost a little more, smaller bag, more satisfying, you'll eat less. regular chips are garbage. stay away from that.

Kettle chips have OBSCENE amounts of fat in them. Hell even Terra chips have crazy amounts of fat. I would suggest shrimp chips (think asian markets) if you need something healthy. Or baked lays

If you're gonna eat chips, the only semi-healthy ones are baked crisps, like baked lays(comes in all flavors, they even have baked doritos).

well all chips arent great simply because they are basically sugar:p but i'm saying the smaller bag higher cost makes them a small satisfying snack instead of a pig out thing with a big ol cheap trough bag that doesn't satisfy. after you eat kettle chips you really can't go back to the cheap stuff.

shrimp chips are unsatisfying as it gets.
i consider them almost as pointless as those puffed rice cakes which is like eating a punishment.

Not all fats are bad for you.

If they're cooked in something like sunflower oil, it's not so bad...

Sun chips are pretty good and aren't too bad for you. Moderation rule still applies.

It really depends on which chips. Some can't be considered healthy at all (no whole grains, lots of fat, lots of carbs, etc.) while others are ok.

All of the Lay's chips around here (Kansas so it makes sense) are made with sunflower oil now which makes them healthier (lowers the saturated and ups the unsaturated fats). It kinda messed with the texture of them, but they still taste good. Sun Chips are pretty good as they have pretty low amount of saturated fat but quite a bit of poly and mono unsaturated. I find they're easier to moderate as well (I think its about 16 chips in a serving).

Another issue with chips is people love dips. Cheese and sour cream dips can add fat and calories really quickly. If this is a problem then try replacing it with tortilla chips and salsa.

Chips like a lot of other bread group industries is getting better because of the use of whole grains and replacing cooking oils with healthier ones.

Still, like someone already said, the key is moderation. You might try to find a small bowl or something that will help you out there as you can better track how much you're eating and I find you're less likely to keep eating if you run out versus having the bag right there. Even a couple of servings (I think about 1/8 of a typical bag) isn't really bad.

I think one of the big problems with chips is that they're a side food and so people often fill up on a sandwich and still eat a bag of chips when they should either get a smaller sandwich or skip the chips.

Being asian, I find shrimp chips quite tasty, with only something like 1-2g of fat per serving

...i thought you meant microchips. anyway, someone once told me: never eat a fry .. so take your pick, they're both unhealthy but taste totally appealing!

Soft drinks are pretty much the worst thing for you that you can find every day (we're not talking about deep fried Twinkies in the deep South). They are pure High Fructose Corn Syrup, with soda flavoring. I would highly recommend drinking diet soda (Aspartame is a hell of a lot better for you than HFCS, and sugar), or just staying away from soda in general.

it depends on which brand you get...I'm in love with a brand in Taiwan, but not so much with the ones they sell here in TX.

Aspartame is a carcinogen... I'd rather buy the soda with real cane sugar than drink the stuff with HFCS.

by that standard you shouldn't drink sugar either:p its probably a carcinogen if you inject 1000 cans worth a day into your veins. you'd probably be similarly dead with such a test for sugar. even overdose of water is lethal.
