Just hit 100k, what to do?

I just hit 100k miles on my 2001 Civic and am wondering if I need to do any maintenance on it in particular. I was thinking of taking it to a nearby Honda dealership to get my red SRS light checked out, but is there anything else I need to do? I'm pretty sure I need to get my tires rotated because the tread on my front wheels is pretty bare whereas my rear wheels look new. Other than those two, is there anything else I should do? I don't want to spend money if I don't have to, but at the same time I want to keep my car in good shape - just don't want to get suckered into paying for something I don't need.

TIA!

Spark plugs and timing chain?
I would consult the manual for the 100k maintenance items just to be sure.

def. timing belt if you plan on keeping the car
The nice thing is that 100k on a honda is like 50K on a domestic (IMO)

edit- timing belt/water pump , doh!

Only whatever it says in the manual (tire tread notwithstanding). Engine light you can get scanned yourself at advance auto parts or autozone for free. Don't pay the dealer $90 to plug in their computer and spend 2 minutes doing what you can do for free.

any estimates on how much typical maintenance of these parts costs?

Doing water pump + timing belt, you're looking at $500 probably parts and labor at a reputable shop. Add spark plugs, wires, fuel filters, air filter, and oil change.

you can probably find a decent shadetree mechanic on craigslist to do your timing belt if you want to save some $$$$

Yea I'll have to check out what's necessary. I just don't want to do anything that's unncessary right now (every time I get my oil changed for example, I get sales pitches to get a new air filter, new windshield wipers, etc).

Some Hondas are closer to $800 for this job. Not like you didn't have any warning that it was coming, though.

OP, your owner's manual will have the service schedule in it. Look for anything in the 90-105K range, as that's the range where Honda usually puts the timing belt replacement service. You may also need a new air intake filter, HVAC filter, valve adjustment, new spark plugs, and transmission and coolant fluid flushes.

It sounds like you've been putting off your services for a long time, so now is a good time to catch up.

I was told that on my Civic it uses a chain that never needs replacing. Chances are the OP doesn't even need one. They are $500 at Honda, but only apply to certain cars.

OP: I think you're due for a full tune up, just check the maintenance schedule. Honda does a schedule all the way to 250,000km, which is a good sign.

Drink to it! Then just continue with the regular maintenance. The timing belt is a good idea. I'd switch to full synthetic oil, too. Now, or in about 20k at least.

edit: Yeah, what SickBeast said.

the resale values speak for themselves...

If you know a good independent mechanic, no harm in a coolant + transmission flush/fill, change of fuel (not oil) filter, maybe the cabin air filter if you haven't done that in awhile, and new plugs. I guess there'd be no harm in running a bottle of SeaFoam either.

Resale value? You must explain.

Get the timing belt changed along with the water pump, don't have to switch your type of oil... if dino oil is getting the job done theres no reason to change to it. Also, get all of your suspension checked.
