Man this is ridiculous. I see posts of people with RR, Comcast, etc with 5mbps+ service for cheap. Since my discount of Charter's $32.95/mo for 3mbps/768kbps ran out, I had to downgrade to a useless 384kbps/128kbps for $44.95/mo!!!! This is friggin' robbery. If I wanted to keep the same speed (which isn't even very fast) it's about $55/mo. It's only for a couple of months though until school is over and I move out. They are trying to ream the users who don't have some $90/mo cable TV/internet package. :disgust: :|

WTF?....thats high. Considering technology gets faster and cheaper.....why aren't they going down on rates and going up on speed?

Yeah charter raised mine up, but as already mentioned elsewhere, I emailed them telling them that I'd have no option but to go with the competition unless they lowered my rate. They did, for three months. When that runs out I will go to the competition.

I think RoadRunner here is like $44.95 a month. THey don't offer any slower speeds. And since the 5 meg download speed is useless for standard internet browsing and such, I'll probably dump them and get DSL for like $26/mo when my wife's company stops paying for it.

For 33 cents a day you could go from .384Mb to 3Mb. hmm, I think I would spend the extra 10 bucks, otherwise just drop the whole thing. 45 for .384 is not a deal.

Hehe...that's funny considering Charter was running commercials to get people to switch here in Atlanta because DirecTV and DISH were raising their rates for the first time in a couple of years. :D

I just renegotiated my SBC contract, the CSR was freaking out on my "old" expired contract... Damn SBC, new contract is $20/month less for the same service.

Err...they haven't raised rates around here. I still get 3mb for $40 a month, then again I've been with them since 1999(back when it was @Home and before they bought out my last cable company). Also they are the only cable company in the area so my only other alternative would be BellSouth 1.5mb DSL for $50/mo.

Charter has no competition in my area, I'm stuck paying the $54.99 for 3mb/384kb. Either that or I could switch to dialup (no DSL available)...but since I've been on cable since @home in '99, that'd be way too hard.

My charter bill this month was $112.06! That's the 3mb internet + big digital cable package with HD. I asked about a special because I wanted to drop them and they said that since I had a special when I signed up, I have to wait 6 months to be eligible for a new special.

The only positive thing I have to say about charter is their techs. They've always been real nice and informative (not the CSRs on the phone). I had a signal strength issue and they went thru my whole house and replaced splitters with higher quality ones and put new high quality ends on all my connections until I had a solid signal going into my HDTV.

Where I live Charter has no competition, so I have to deal with the same crap. Our cable bill is about $90 a month for the standard digital cable and whatever slow ass speed this cable internet is.

I've been spoiled by resnet at our school.
