here's the email I recieved:

Hi,

Google has been notified that your video allegedly violates the copyright
of others. The title of the video is listed at the end of this message.

According to our policy regarding copyright complaints, we are removing
the video in question.

The affected video is listed below:

Family Guy - DeBeers Ad Parody

If you believe this removal was done in error, please respond to this
email.

Sincerely,

The Google Video Team

It was a three second clip of the parody of the "diamonds are forever" ad campaign. I realize it is technically violating a copyright, but it was only a 3 second clip and there's much longer Family Guys around on the site.

Thinking that FOX had cracked down, I searched for "Family Guy" and there's still over 250 clips. 😕 I think that it was the use of DeBeers name that brought down the wrath of Google Video Team... oh well, it was funny while it lasted! 🙂

I had uploaded the "Best Of Quagmire" video earlier this summer, and I got the same email a few weeks ago. I bet people just keep re-uploading them until they get pulled again.

Fox is really into that kind of thing. one of my brothers almost got kicked out of harvard for dl'ing simpsons episodes, and my other bro almost got booted from university of michigan.

Are you the copyright holder?

3 seconds can be claimed as fair use, however.

I don't think the OP has much power in claiming that with Google, though, because they probably don't care.

While I have no doubt that the fascist media empire is rapidly tightening its finegrs around the throat of society, I would be surprised if there didn't still exist (for now, anyway) a fair use clause. I would also be surprised if such a clause prohibited as short a clip as three seconds.

Do you have a link to back that up? I'm curious pulse8 🙂

Only if it was used in a newsworthy, academic/educational, or critique/criticism situation.

I'm not going to fight this: it really isn't worth my time or effort - I didn't hold the copyright, fair use isn't a real concern of mine however I did find this:

"In general, when other criteria are met, the copying of extracts that are "not substantial in length" when compared to the whole of which they are part may be considered fair use."

Sourced at: http://www-sul.stanford.edu/cpyright.html

3 seconds (it was literally that long) in relation to a 22 minute television show. 0.68% if the total running time. It was not for educational or otherwise academic use so I'd lose anyways.
