Just had all 4 wisdom teeth extracted

Bottom two were impacted and very deep. Dentist said it was one of the deepest he's seen and it sort of looked like he was having trouble. Suffice to say, all four were removed painlessly with local anesthetics and I would say he did a great job extracting them. The most painful part was probably injection of the anesthetics. I'm bleeding like a mad man right now but I guess that's expected... here's to hoping a proper blood clot forms and I don't get f'd over with a dry socket.

I didn't have to pay anything out of pocket under my parent's insurance plan.

edit:

It has now been 5 days since my wisdom teeth extraction. The strange numbness feeling on the bottom right side of my cheek, jaw/gum line and right edge of my tongue has persisted. It's hard to describe the feeling, but it's not a burning sensation like paresthesia nor is it numb to the point where I can't feel anything.

During the procedure, I can't remember if it was during the re-injection of the local to the right side (he extracted the left side first), or during the drilling of the bottom right tooth, but I remember a sharp tingling on the right side of my tongue, almost as if the nerves just started firing off. I had a feeling then and there he hit a lingual nerve.

Anyway this feeling, though not painful, totally sucks. I've done lots of research online and came across a small number of successful recoveries, but the bulk of it turned out inconclusive with people suffering from lingual nerve damage saying they've still not recovered after years. I guess it's just one of the risks you have to deal with when being operated on and I'm kinda grateful the numbness is only on the right side of my mouth.

Eh, we can work some console magic into this. So, playing any games while you're taking off school/work? :)

no pain killers yet, just the local anesthetics swelling up my face. I also probably won't need any time off school either since I surprisingly feel pretty good, but we'll see once the anesthesia wears off

Were they causing problems? I managed to keep all four of mine although there wasn't much room for them.

Dude. You do not know pain until day two, when you wake up and went the whole night without a nice, healthy 'pop' of codeine laced Tylenol, or whatever the hell the doctor gave you.

Just follow your doctor's instructions like cleaning the thing, rinsing it with salt water, and you should be fine. I got all 4 ripped out exactly a year and a week ago, not a single problem. Don't bite the back of my cheek anymore either. Now to ask about getting my canine realigned.

I honestly feel pretty good day two. Dds prescribed Tylenol with codeine so I've been avoiding the pain but. Let me tell ya it hurts like mad the moment the codeine wears off. I haven't been able to eat anything both days and resorted to jamba juice with a spoon so that kinda sucks.

another crappy thing is the bottom right gap hurts quite a bit more than the left and I'm experiencing minor parasthesia on a corner of the right side of my tongue.

Theres my blog for the day

Been there done that. X-rays showed that 2 or 3 of my wisdoms were growing into my mouth at a 90 degree angle to the rest of my teeth. Lol when I saw the X-ray it was like something out of a cartoon I couldn't believe it. Had all 4 removed under general anaesthetics. Hope the doctor didn't has surprise butsex! Can't rmember much of that day to say the least. I was helped stumbling home. I remember it all being very pleasant :) The next week wasn't fun but really not as bad as some horror stories just couldn't talk much or eat much solid food the first few days. Thank god I didn't get dry sockets as the OP mentions that's where the horror stories usually come in.

Looked like this.

Even if you get a dry socket, don't worry. It's painful but the doctor will prescribe more pain meds. This happened to me and I got another beautiful bottle of Vicodin. Woooo!

As much fun as those pills were, I stopped taking them once the pain was tolerable. I probably had about four pills left from my second bottle but I tossed them rather than risk dependency.

Got mine done last summer. I don't remember anything starting from getting knocked out up until 6+ hours later when I was woken up. For some reason, I decided to sleep on the couch in my room instead of my bed.

I still haven't gone in to get my wisdom teeth removed. Call me a pussy, but I just hate surgeries. I went through 2 big ones during my teenage years and each one of them gave me the most painful recoveries. I know this is just wisdom teeth, but I don't think I will do it until I really have to. The dentist thought I should do the 2 bottom teeth, but the x-ray really was not bad. They aren't effecting my straight teeth and causing any pain so I'll probably just keep them in until I notice them effecting my other teeth.

Do they just your teeth and do it while you are awake or do they put you to sleep?

They only used local anesthetics? When I had mine done they knocked me out totally.

That also really sucks about the update. I remember my doc warning about the possibility of losing feeling do to hitting that nerve. Hope it gets better eventually.

4 *and* local-only?

YTMND!

I don't really need to have mine done, but they do have cavities, so my dent suggested to just get 'em yanked. But when I have MINE done, I don't want to remember a thing. NOT A THING!!!!!

It will take about 3 weeks to get things near normal. But no matter how much pain you have now, its better than dealing constant infections of the gums near the impacted wisdom teeth. Trust me I know that all too well.
