I as most of you know I work in Boulder but i live in a small town out on the colorado plains. I went to the little grocery store to get some food for tonights dinner and had a strange encounter that put me on edge.

There was this dude in front of me in BDU's (battle dress uniform) and had a loaded sidearm (which was not Military issue, unless they let soldiers take home nickel plated Glock 10mm's now) on a leg holster. As i Look at this dude i notice he had on a US Army BDU shirt with Air Assault wings and some other function badge that I did not recognize. Then i Look at his cap (which he did not remove when he went indoors) and it was a Marine 5 point cover and he had a Navy chevron with the rank of Petty Officer 3rd class pinned on the front of it.

So i asked the guy what branch is he in, Army or Navy. He replies that he is in both and that he is in the reserves just got back from Ft Carson (in Colorado Springs) So my next question was. What is your MOS. He comes back with I am a Sniper.... Now my radar is and guard is up.

He ask me if i was prior military. Of course I answered yes, 10 years Air Force Security Forces. He looked suprised, paid for his stuff and left. With out saying anything else to me. I watched him go out to his truck and he had "honorably discharged veteran" plates just like mine.

I was real tempted to contact the Sheriffs dept and let them know about this dude. But he left, I left end of story.

I think because you're not allowed to carry a non-military issued weapon when you're in your uniform. But I'm not sure.

any dude wearing a uniform from two different branches of the military, claiming to be a sniper, wearing a loaded weapon in a public establishment would warrent a call to the local police.

Dude sounds like a loon, might be a good idea to call the local law about him...

I want his 10mm Glock though, if you have to take him out, save me the weapon:evil:

Impersonating a member of the US armed forces isn't all that great either.

In the State of New Mexico it is legal to carry a unconcealed firearm anywhere but an establishment that sells booze or a bank. Don't know how the law applies in CO.

In Colorado??

Probably a militia man escaped from the compound.

That or one of the actors living there or in Montana.

Ab-so-freaking-lutely!

Sounds like he's a few sandwiches short of a picnic and needs a reality check.

Call 'em now. Put your conscience at ease.

A permit is not required in CO to carry a handgun where carrying firearms is legal, if the handgun is not concealed.

So unless the guy is a convicted felon or found to be a danger to himself or others, he is within his rights to carry a firearm.

As for his BS story about being in the military, unless he tries to use it for "official" purposes, he is not breaking the law.

It is also legal to wear military BDUs if you're not in the service.

The guy was weird, but not illegal.

Yip, you are correct. he could dress up as Bozo the clown and wear that sidearm and not break any laws.

If he dressed as Bozo and told you he was a sniper, I would definitely call BS on that.
