My wife and I agreed to an in-home RainSoft Water Softener presentation since they were offering 3-days and 2-nights at a hotel in the location of our choice. It was pretty amusing as he did the history of the company and the normal scare tactics (chemicals in the water cause cancer!). There was also the "the air and water were cleaner 50 years ago" line. Oh really? I don't recall Lake Eerie catching on fire because it is so polluted recently...

Anyways, he ran some of our tap water through a test filter and then did two tests. One was supposed to attract any minerals in the water and drag it to the bottom of the beaker. The other was supposed to change the water to blue if the water was soft and to red if it was hard.

Both tests failed...for him. The first test resulted in the filtered water cloudier than the straight tap water. The second test resulted in the filtered water being just as red as the tap water.

We were only the second or third presentation that this guy has done and he was pretty embarrassed. Kind of fun to watch him squirm in his seat. :D

Did you make him give you the free trip anyway? :) They usually try to get out it if you don't buy. I make them give me the goods.

Oh we got the free hotel stay. At least the form to send in to get the free hotel stay. Unfortunately, the way it is worded makes it sound like we have to sit through another presentation.

The guy didn't try to force us to buy anything during his visit...thankfully.

Pwnage!!

We had a similar thing happen about 7 years ago; some dude was selling this ~$1000 vacuum door to door and it was supposedly amazing and picks up dirt that doesn't even exist (?) so we let him in for a demo. (Dont ask why)

Anyhoo, soon after he plugged it in and turned it on (before he got to show us how it works), smoke started to billow from the motor. LOL he was like WTF "this must be becuase of all of the demonstrations it has been put through! I have been using this same one for almost a month"

My pops was like, a MONTH?????? So basically thats about what, one year of normal usage? (Being very generous with the extrapolation...)

He started talking some BS, but anyway, then my dad asked him who is going to pay to get the smoky smell out of our home, and it was hilarious to hear the guy try to backpedal his way right out the door and into his car. He even offered us one of the vacuum's at "half-off" We obviously didn't buy it.
