I just had mine out a few months ago-it really wasnt that bad.

I had mine out a few weeks ago. They jipped me though IMO. They filled a perscription for me for a wek pain killer, and wrote me one for percosett (sp?) anyways, I took the pain killer the first night, it didn't do anything, and it wasn't worth it to get the percosett, so I never got the really great feeling, just this mild dulling of the pain (similar to Tylenol) I only took that one pill, it just wasn't worth it to swallow the others.

Take their advice when they say not to use straws.

Also, if you don't have ice on your face, do it NOW.

Put two ice packs, one on each side. Strap them on with a belt if you have to.

You'll look like a moron, but it will help keep the pain down & will drastically reduce/eliminate swelling.

Also, you've been given painkillers for a reason - use them.

thanks for your responses...i'm alternating the ice on each side every 15min...it's hard to swallow cuz i can't feel anything attached to my lower jaw...haha. took me 15 min to swallow the vicadin pill...

i can't even open my mouth all the way...haha. the doc told me i had a small mouth...i guess that's better than having a big one...haha

Did they give you general or local anesthetic? It took me like 6 hrs to wake up completely from general. I never did that thing with ice, I guess I was lucky. Yeah don't use the straw, I didn't listen and I could FEEL the stitiches pulling, I decided to heed their advice

I had all 4 removed at the same time. I slept for almost 2 days straight. I woke up long enough to pop a painkiller.

Hope that you don't get dry sockets like I did....
