Self-explanatory....

Good Luck Goosemaster 😀

I'm digging my vonage setup. Last weekend I forked over some cash for an APC UPS system for my cable modem, vonage router, and wireless AP, since my only real concern with the service was a power outage.

how does one convert your phone jacks to use vonage? with out rewireing the house?

wasssup: do you really work for vonage?

They give you a phone adapter..ie router....

No rewiring needed

i know, i have it

but in order to connect one phone in our house its on the complete other end

with out running a 100 ft. cable from the phone to the vonage adaptor and going through a floor, how can one set it up so it just uses the regular phone jacks?

i was told that some guy disconnected his POTs line and used a splitter for a phone jack that was near the vonage adaptor and did it that way

but he said with out disconnecting the POTs line you would get a dial tone if you did that

i tried it (w/o disconnecting the old line) and it worked, the other phone and all

only thing is we couldn't recieve calls comming in that way

It's funny, I've had vonage for a while now... Brighthouse (Time Warner) offers their "Digital Combo/Digital Voice+" service... $34.99/mo. I laugh in their general direction.

I've heard the brighthouse option sucks too (just from one person though).

I have had packet 8 for over two years now. They've been cheaper historically, and have always been excellent. They also normally rate higher for voice quality than vonage in every article I have read.

1. Disconnect POTS line coming into your house.
2. Plug in phone adapter to any available jack.
3. All other jacks should now get the "right" dial tone.
4. ???
5. Profit!

What I heard is that Brighthouse's digital phone is actually vonage... just resold under their own name. LOL @ them.

i wouldn't even know where to disconnect this POTS line

all i know about at my house is the gas meter, and a little plastic cable box that was added when we installed cable

BUT- we do have a metal box out in our front yard that is green and i can't get into, due to the fact that its owned by the power comapny (also has a smaller one that i think is owned by the phone company, but i still can't access it)

Yup, I really work there.

Check this out for home wiring info...it's pretty straightforward, make sure you're disconnected at the demarcation point and then simply plug your phone adapter into one of the wall jacks in your house...

cool

we have vonage at home. Its worked great..only problem is the range on the base isnt as big as our old phone but thats just the hardware..no problem with the actually service.

The only annoying part is having to dial the area code even to make local calls..and even that you can get used to.

We've had to do that in No.VA anyways for years 🙁
