Just got Vista X64

I used to run AVS on my XP build, coupled with spybot and ad-aware... all free editions. Seemed to get the job done.

I have since changed over to Avast! (Since AVS is no longer free) and I am happy with that. Simple question: Is Spybot and Ad-Aware still going to get the job done on my Vista build, or should I be looking at different programs... maybe one that will do the job of both.

Note that I FREE is what I'm aiming for.

Help would be greatly appreciated!

Both of them are "has been" apps that have lackluster detection rates on any OS. However Shad links to some excellent solutions. 🙂

 
Good recommendations in this thread. Running Antivir classic and superantispyware as well. Antivir is very very low system resources.

It runs 3 processes (I have 4GB of mem) .

Avguard.exe taking up 8.322 megs of mem
Sched.exe taking up 1.368 megs
avgnt.exe (system tray tool) 1.072 megs

Thats very nice stuff. The only thing I didn't like is that its not possible to exit out of the system tray without killing the process.

AFAIK not compatible with Vista. I tried installing it myself. But honestly, Norton uses the same AV engine (Norton IS Symantec), and 2008 uses less resources. Very good product for antispyware as well.

This is the 64 bit version for VISTA that I got from my IT guy. It appears to be working fine. I just can't scan individual files by right clicking on them. I have to perform a custom scan after I locate the file on the HD. (lame)
 
I'm running Antivir, Comodo Firewall and SuperAntiSpyware on my Vista x64, works wonderfully. I might be trying the new Avast 4.8, as I heard the new version was absolutely spectacular, but I'm going to wait until I test out Antivir 8 when it's released in april.

For what it's worth: I'd avoid AVG 8 when it goes free, the paid version (had a free license until December) gave me (and a bunch of others) nothing but problems.
