Just got to Vegas for a short 18 hour stint. If you can't have fun in Vegas, the problem isn't Vegas

Got a sick room at the Cosmo with a balcony. Toking away before heading down to my first dinner. Got a concert after that, followed by a second dinner, followed by more debauchery, and some pizza and people watching to finish the night.

Another 2 lunches tomorrow and a trip to Flock and Fowl for some Hainan chicken rice to bring home to the wife.

For 18 hours I'm freeeeeeeee. Vegas is awesome.

places like Vegas make me barf these days. Didn't always, but they do now. Eh.
That's because unlike previously, you now suck at consuming alcohol and it ends in barfing.

But yeah, I agree. Once you hit a certain age and career status, your bedtime shifts from midnight - 2:00am to 8:00-10:00

Only thing I cared for in Vegas were shows. That's about it.

It's poverty. :p I can't imagine how much those 18 hours will cost you given the lavishness of your activities and lodging.

Accurate. It's the most tolerable casino hotel for me in Vegas and the restaurants are pretty good even on a non-Vegas basis.

Don't you ever get bored of a Casino and restaurants eventually? I would think it would get pretty stale after a few hours unless you're winning (which probability-wise you're not).

This your first time to Vegas? I had a room with a balcony at Cosmo last time I was there, overlooking the strip and the pool at the Cosmo. It was an awesome view and my wife and I were talking about going there in November for my birthday. It's been 5 years since last time we went and that place is tons of fun.

I wouldn't be surprised in the least of the majority of people on this board don't like Vegas or couldn't have fun there.

And the only gambling I've ever done in Vegas is roulette with like $50 one time.

My Vegas tolerance level is about 24 hours, so yeah. I also don't gamble really at all. I've played one hand of video poker in 10 years.

So whats awesome about it? What are we missing out on? The most fun I had there were comedy shows to be honest - restaurants were pretty decent too.

And knowing the Cosmo has restaurants and a casino - what's so great about overpaying for their hotel vs. something else on the strip? I mean if it's a balcony there are plenty of places you can go that are high up and give you a view down below. It's not exactly amazing.

Because most people on this forum are introverts and don't like being around people and are big nerds. I'm like that myself but not to the extent that most people on this board seem to be. And my wife is the exact opposite so I'm forced to be in situations like that, and I can enjoy it myself.

The location of the Cosmo is great. It's right in the heart of everything. You can walk to most of the entertainment from there or take a very short taxi ride. It's also a more upscale hotel so you aren't around the drunk fratboys and trash like you are if you stay at the Flamingo. And you're wrong about being able to get balconies at hotels overlooking the strip being common, do some research.

You can get rooms at the Cosmo during the week for under $100 depending when you go. I still get emails from them often about this.

You should also look at the definition of overpaying. Paying more for better location and a more upscale experience isn't overpaying if you can afford it and it's worth it to you.

You misinterpreted my post - I didn't say hotels. I mean you can go to a corporate building high up and look down - you can take the vegas carousel and look down. I get the feeling that most people go on to their balcony and say "cool view" and never look again.

Honestly Vegas does not really appeal to me. I'm sure I'd have a fun time but it's not really a place that's on my bucket list. Too hot, and the jist I get is that it's more extrovert oriented and kind of "fake". They do have some interesting things to check out though. If I'd visit, it would have to be in winter. :p

alcohol is not involved in my physical reaction to Vegas.

Unrelated, I probably handle alcohol "better" than I did in the time period in my life where I would probably have preferred Vegas. Hangovers happen now, more frequently, but I tend to just pass out/get sleepy before I get to the point where I would be puking/blacking out. ....so I consider that a bonus. :D

I've been to LV many times, all as a waypoint to my final destination. My first visit to the strip was "interesting" to the point that all of my subsequent trips involved staying by McCarran International.

LV is not my cup of tea ...

Really? I would take barfing and feeling like shit the night of over an ENTIRE wasted day the next day... any day.

I fucking hate hangovers because no matter what I do there is no cure. Drinking a gallon of water doesn't help... eating a huge ass burrito doesn't help... Which doesn't help my weight either. But regardless, anytime I get a hangover it's an entire wasted day of feeling like shit and taking naps.

Oh I get what you mean. I was just weighing the benefits of my body shutting itself down a bit sooner and so nearly eliminating the potential for severe alcohol poisoning, to the cost of an extended shitty day--the other thing is that the extended shitty days pretty much works as its own disincentive to not drink so much.

Getting old does suck. Amazing how quickly the metabolism changes, too. :D
