Just got the Gaim 2.0 beta

I'm using it on my desktop sys. and the tabbed IM feature is sweet but I cant seem to find the setting to make it minimize and run in the tray. It will only minimize to taskbar. Am I missing something?

Downloading now...

I've been using gAim for a while now, hopefully this will continue building on what I consider a vastly superior chat client.

You gotta go to Tools, Plugins, and check the "System Tray Icon" plugin.

Is GAIM better than Trillian Pro (have that currently)?

IMO Trillian is too "busy" for my taste, which is why I prefer GAIM.

Hmm, that's weird. If I had anything simpler than Trillian's interface, I would consider it too simple. Oh well, different people, different tastes. 🙂

when i heard that Gaim doesnt even support video/voice (at least the one i wanted to try a few months ago)...i just laughed and didnt install it. It's 2006 almost and not 1991 😉

What's the purpose of a text-only messenger ?

Well I suppose thats just you. I've been using AIM for a good five years now, and not once have I ever used video cam/voice chat.

I'm using AIM version 4.8 with AIM+ version 2.2.1

me too. however i do like AdiumX as a better alternative to AIM when using my Powerbook.

100% agree. Whenever I'm on my Mac, I use Adium because it owns just about every other IM client I've ever seen. Adium is actually based on Gaim.

I like it so far, I'll make the switch. Gaim was a great alternative, and Gaim 2 seems like the same thing with some more features . . .

What's new to 2.0? (Currently using 1.5).

The one major improvement is that file transfers seem to actually work (woohoo UPnP support). The transparency thing is more of a pain than a feature, and the interface hasn't changed much for the better. Read the changelog here.

It works better for me...I've tried a couple transfers between friends, behind routers on both ends, and on the AIM/MSN protocols.

What's the purpose of a voice-only telephone??

IT'S A TEXT MESSENGER - YOU KNOW, FOR TEXT! If you want voice, why aren't you using a telephone???

I prefer Trillian Pro to Gaim, although I'll use Gaim if I quickly need to install a messenger on a computer (I hate AIM express and Gaim is the smallest package one can download/install).
