My dad is sick of our 98 ford taurus station wagon, too many problems.

Any suggestions for a SUV? I'm looking at the Honda CR-V right now.

Update: i'm about to go to the dealer to look at the CR-V and Pilot, any advice?

update2: just got the cr-v. wow it's so smoooth!

my dad has one. its a good car, has good pickup with a manual. only problem is its a very difficult car to see out of. huge blindspot.:|

Well my mom is afraid of driving in the snow, so SUV solves the problem.
All of the Subarus are awd, so it wouldn't be a problem. A Subaru Forester would also be in your dad's price range.

it's not high enough...

not high enough? what are you gonna drive down a ski slop? besides the new sub wagons look pretty good to.

oh and as for the highlander 4wd listed above. its gonna be pretyt slow with a 4cyl

Someone needs to talk to your Mom. She'd likely be safer, as would the other drivers around her, in a Forrester.

Dunno offhand, but a Forrester likely had as much ground clearance as most small SUV's, so that's not the problem.

The problem is, she thinks she'll feel safer up on high, but the laws of physics apply. Higher means a higher center of gravity, and means more tippiness and less safe, less controlled directional changes, especially the more sudden ones. Plus, there are those blind spots, which will make her and everyone else around her less safe.

Your Dad and you need to take her to delearships for A/B tests drives, including PARKING and manuvering in congested traffic. It's the only way to change her misconception, and drive (no pun intended) the point home.

Good luck with all that. (And I realize I may be overdramatizing the difference between a CR-V and a Forrester).

My mom just picked up a CR-V for right about 20k a few weeks ago and loves it.

I myself am looking at a Liberty for myself, but it may be a little too tall.

I have a CR-V 5mT, its a fun little thing to drive, and has served me well in pittsburgh winters (lots of potholes). 25000 miles so far and not a squeak.

i think the forrester is considered a SUV this year.

but because it's for your mom, she'll like the CRV. My wife has one and likes it.

Everytime someone suggests a Subaru instead of an SUV, I think to myself... yeah it's great cause of the AWD and the storage capacity but:

- it's still only a wagon (yuck)
- all Subarus are fugly (except the new WRXs)

Have you seen the '05 Legacy? That's hardly fugly.

And wtf. The Forester is no less an SUV then a CRV. That you can't deny

Forester:
65" high
7.5" ground clearance
64 cu ft. of space

CR-V
66" high
8.1" ground clearance
72 cu ft. of space

They're practically identical.

^ ahh didn't go hunting for the new models.. Legacy isn't bad... sorta the same front-end of the wrex.

Sorry but the Forrester needs a make-over. Ground clearance-wise... you'd like to see more, but I agreed about them being similar to SUVs otherwise already. And I'm not liking the wagon look at all. Hell I even hate the CRV look. RAV4.. now that's a pretty nice look for a mini.

CRV is ugly though, inside and out. Other than that it's a great little SUV.

hehe CRV's nice, but i think it looks so ugly hehe.

the rav4 looks nice and it's a toyota...but i heard it isn't as good as the CRV...not sure..hehe
