OK, I bought this stupid Advanced Video cable for my Xbox cuz it says that it supports S-Video. Now, when I put my TV to AV2S (S for SVideo), the picture is only black and white. Can this be? http://www.xbox.com/de-ch/hardware/scartcable.htm

That's the one I bought. Is that the right one? Could it be that the Advanced Pack in America and Europe is different? That would suck some major donkey balls. In the Swiss description, it says something about RGB-signal.

I had this problem with a cheap s-video cable I picked up for my PS2. Turns out the connector going into the console was loose. I bought the Sony cable and it works fine.

Is there anything plugged into the composite plug on AV2S? If there is unplug it. I've had be a problem before as well.

I have my DirecTV receiver hooked through S-Video. I was fooling around behind the TV one day (coincidentally, I was hooking up my new XBOX component cables ;)), and must've knocked the S-Vid cable loose. When I went to watch some DirecTV, it was all black and white. So I re-secured the cord, and voila, color again.

Moral to this story? Your cord may be a little lose.

Yes, NTSC/PAL, two separate technologies. I believe one will display monochrome only if connected to the wrong type of TV.

I can't view the link (blocked by my work proxy), what exactly did you buy?

To properly troubleshoot your problem, we need to know a few things:

Is your TV NTSC or PAL?
Is your Xbox NTSC or PAL? (Should say on the box, and on the label on the bottom)
If the cable you bought is the one linked in your original post (SCART), it's not available here in America AFAIK.

on normal AV2, it is colored so I don't think that's the problem. I might just expected too much. I pulled out every other cable there was. There's still some ghosting in Fifa 2004.

Might be a misconfiguration on your TV? Maybe there's a different setting in the menu for the SCART input... PAL TVs can have different refresh rates (50,60Hz?) or am I mistaken?

It's a 100Hz TV. I tried every picture affecting menu on the TV to no avail.

Aren't you the one who couldn't tell the difference between progressive scan w/component & composite video?

Maybe you have some underlying hardware issues...

Nope, not really.
