Don't pull or squeeze the stinger. It contains venom, and you'll end up re-stinging yourself. (This applies to bees only; yellow jackets, wasps and hornets don't lose their stingers.)
As I was walking, an insect (didn't see what it was) got lodged between my left foot and sandal. It got crushed, but it managed to sting. Damn, it hurt! I could see 1-mm reddish mark on the bottom of my foot. I have been applying cortizone cream on it. The stung area is still a little bit swollen and itchy.
I kill wasp nests at work all the time (golf course guy). I go out in nothing less than boots, gloves, full raingear, and a welding mask. There's no way they can get me. A bunch of other people have been stung trying to take out the nests; this one guy got stung just above his eye, and he looked like quasimodo for 3 days.
