This is my first day with DSL...everything is set up fine and it works pretty well. The annoying part is having the connection drop a few times today (I like to have AIM running all day).

They say to keep the modem powered on and running for the first 10 days of service in order to maximize connection speed. Are a few dropped connections normal during the initial days of service?

TIA

I don't think so. But sometimes there are outages, when I had my ATT dsl for about 3 and half weeks or so, I had no outages. Modem was on 24/7.

One problem I had was that it took forever to connect ... I like to plug the phone line out of the jack, not leave it in like other people.

SBC Yahoo is fairly good from everything I hear about it. Give it another week, if it doesn't work out, cancel it. I'm sure you have a 1 year contract, so if you want to cancel it, do it within 1st month.

Nice to hear, I have Earthlink Cable over Roadrunner lines and get a consisten 2850 down and 350 up on the east coast server. Lowest pings in games and great download speeds. Great great great. Hope it stays this way. Fingers crossed.

Have had SBC dsl for about a year and a half (Ohio). It only rarely goes down. Their tech support people are idiots though. And I always do a manual setup and never use their setup cds, as all of the Yahoo crap they install is nothing but a headache. Soon as you register on Yahoo, bingo, boatloads of spam. SBC has a pretty good privacy policy but Yahoo's is terrible. Have helped several people with email probs in Yahoomail by installing Mozilla Thunderbird as a mail client. Hate their Yahoo browser too, use Mozilla and Mozilla Firebird. Even their tech support people will tell you the Yahoo Parental controls often cause all kinds of problems. To me at least, a Yahoo label on anything is like a skull and crossbones.

How many DSL Microfilters have you put around the House?

I correctly installed all of the microfilters....

My problem lied in the fact that my modem was sitting right next to one of my Logitech Z-640 speakers - TOO MUCH ELECTROMAGNETIC INTERFERENCE :)

I've housed the modem on a flat plastic surface under my bed and haven't had a dropped connection since...

p.s. with all the tight integration with yahoo that SBC has, i wouldn't knock Yahoo - I still pay for yahoo mail and even when I didn't I never got SPAM in my inbox - SBC also offers yahoo premium services, so I signed up for ~800 megs of online space, free, just for getting the dsl package
