ok I just got my santa cruz after being without sound for 2 months Im in shock 🙂

anyway I was wondering what tips, etc... the other santa cruz people on this board have learned.

I just installed it on my Win2000 machine (Athlon in Sys Rig page), using the default drivers that came with it.

Serious Sam sounds great in EAX, but that is the only thing I have tested other than playing some MP3s

ok I have noticed somethings already

my DVDs in the hollywood plus software are super quiet, my MP3s, etc... are quiet, and also Serious Sam and Unreal T. seem to be quiet as well.

the worst out of these is the DVD. I have to max out my speakers just to hear it.
the dvd was quiet with my old live value but not this quiet.

System sounds in windows are not quiet however. so when I am listening to an MP3 and then AIM goes off it about scares me to death.

so far I am impressed with the Santa Cruz, just need to tweak it some 🙂

I had the same problem when I first got my soundcard. They say it's because you need to use more powered speakers. Supposedly your last sound card was amplified, and the Santa Cruz is not. So shell out some more money and get some decent speakers! Or you could use headphones for now, like i do.

According to your rigs page, you have some pretty nice speakers....hmm. Have you installed the newest drivers for 2000 from the Turtle Beach website? That help you. Let me know if you find out exactly what's going on.

haven't installed the drivers yet.
20 megs on dial up 🙁
anyway I'll give them a try and see if it helps.

my main problem is with DVDs though, games, etc... I can turn up a little and its ok.

the speakers I am using are not top of the line or anything but they should be ok for the Santa Cruz.

Use the reverb and effects lightly. Once you tweak the sound with alot of effects your cpu utilization goes right through the roof with the SC.

turn off the effects or mute them...

assuming u don't have downsyndrome and have the wav and master volume levels properly adjusted and have installed the latest drivers from their site, try plugging your speakers in different jacks and, of course, setting the channel mode properly (i.e. rear, front, versajack analog=headphone(versajack))

other than that, i have no clue.
