Yup, just happened this morning at my dorm while I was sleeping !!
This $hit really pissed me off.
Lost my wallet, with $150 cash in it !!! 3 credit cards (just canceled) and 2 bank cards (waiting for mon morning to go to the bank). School ID, driving permit, phonecards, it hurts more for each items that I can recall was in the wallet.
They took my $70 Guess watch, my nautica fleece, banana republic sweater. (those dicks)

Also missing - my roommate's polo jacket, suitemate's dreamcast and all of his games. 2nd suitemate's wallet including 3 cc, green card, and social security card !!

I know it may sound dumb. How can someone come in our suite, and take $hit from my room while im sleeping right there and I failed to notice anything happen. But what can I say, that freaking thief gotta be a pro. From what I heard, my suitemate said they locked the suite door when they went to sleep, but they didnt lock my room door. (I slept early, and one of them was still in my room using my pc)So when I wokeup today, my door was wide open, and my draw was open. My thick wallet was the first thing i noticed was missing..and the rest followed.

I sure feel like hell right now, need to go to bank tomorrow and get the whole crap settled, report lost ID (hoping they didnt use all of my meal money), and plus the nicest thing a college can offer - a final at 5pm. All this proved one thing, $hit happens.

:| :( :( :|

jinglingxl, I know it dosn't sound like to much of a comfort but don't be hung up on material things.

The people that did this are low lives and will get whatever they deserve in the end.

Best of luck

Ouch man.... I've had my place robbed before, when I was on my honeymoon. Came back to find apartment ransacked. So I can definitely relate to how you are feeling.

Couple of reccomendations:
1) Think of any other #'s that may have been in your wallet or other items.
If social security # or checking account numbers have been compromised, take appropriate action.

2) As much as it hurts, keep thinking of items that are missing, keep a pad and pencil near the phone and jot them down as you remember. You will probably run into more in the next few days.

3) Did you have renter's insurance? This would be covered, if it's over the deductible of course.

4) Get a copy of your credit report from Equifax and all the other major people. Make certain no strange accounts are being opened up under you name / address / social security number.

God that sucks. When I lived in the dorms, I slept very lightly because my hallmates would come in and steal my cigs, food, etc. But, if they got away with it, they'd pay me back. I don't think anyone could've gotten past me to steal anything large, unless I was passed out drunk. I feel really bad for you...do you think another student could've done it? That would just be horrible. :(

Wow, that really sucks. :(

I got robbed my freshman year of college. One day my roomate goes to the lounge to refill our water filter, leaving the door unlocked. He says he stops to talk to some girl for a few minutes and when he comes back some of our junk is gone. They took off with his cell phone and Gucci watch (luckly he had his laptop secured to the desk) off his desk. What's really stupid is that the door to our room is clearly visible from the lounge.

What pisses me off is that they stole a dead hard drive off my desk I was going to RMA. I knew that once they find it isn't working they are just going to throw it into the garbage, but now I'm out a freaking hard drive. :|

I really wonder how I'm gonna react if one day I saw someone else on campus wearing a shirt look identical to what I lost... hmmm
I know exactly how my roommate would of reacted if he saw someone with a jacket similar to what he lost, he'll definitely pay a visit behind those steel bars..cuz there is no way he's not gonna jump that guy

Damn, does your dorm have some desk attendant or night clerk near the main entrance? If so, you might be able to ask them if they saw anyone walk out with mad stuff. If not, then the stuff could still be in your residence hall in someone's room. Perhaps the university will aid you in a search through the hall.

Will your university reimburse you for the stuff that was stolen? Because if they don't and they just let people get away with this stuff and not do anything, that's horrible PR. My university is currently spending a fortune on security just for PR.

In addition, I remember last year, in my studios, some girl got her entire toolbox full of supplies jacked. Some other guy had his radio stolen, and the Architecture Department reimbursed both of them.

Sorry to hear that, jinglingxl.
I've also heard reports of ppl being robbed at gunpoint in their dorm rooms before.
that's some crazy stuff.
And i thought getting my pots and pans stolen from the dorm kitchen was bad.
The only thing u can do from now on is just try to keep the door locked most of the time.

reimbursement! oh I'm lucky if they can even reimburse the dorm keycard that I lost along with my wallet which ususally cost $25 if it was lost.
the campus police came..and filed a report, and that was all ! the only way that I can get reimbursed for anything is only if I had some sort of property insurance for my dorm, which I do not have.

damn, i just remembered i got my blockbuster card in there as well... gotta cancel so many things tomorrow...errr

I almost got rob once on a cruise ship. It was about 5:00am in the morning and Me and 3 other friends are in our cabin sleeping. I heard some noise so I started to open my eyes a little bit and I see 2 people opening the closet door searching thru our language. When I fully sat up on my bunk bed the started to run. I quickly jump of the bed put my glasses on and run out the cabin door and look both ways and they're gone. Bastard, thank got nothing was missing. For the voice they I've heard, I'll bet its the cabin attendant. But since I didn't lose anything, I let it go.

hey I feel for you man...I recently lost my wallet too. I had so much ID and sh!t in there that it took me a month and over a hundred dollars to replace it. Now, if whoever found it would have just given it back to me, little do they know I would have given them the $90 I had in there as a reward since it would save me so much trouble. But I guess this f*cking world is fresh out of honest people! (and if you're wondering, if I found one with ID in it, yes i would have returned it)
losing all that stuff is a terrible feeling and I felt like crap for days. your whole "life" was in there and you can't do anything without it all it seems...

I think the worst thing to lose is your green card. It is very non-trivial to replace, and could take up to a year. I feel really bad for your suitemate and the rest of you who got robbed.

kami Not all out, some of us are still honest :) You're right though, replacing that stuff is SUCH a hassel. I had my wallet stolen out of a locker once. It had no money in it or anything but they still stole it; then I had to replace all the cards, etc. etc. Nothing puts me into a rage as easily as having something stolen. I'd seriously beat a theif into the intensive care if given the opportunity.

What gets me is that people are still stupid enough to break into a room with the other people asleep. Damn!

Skoorb, glad to hear it
well, one thing i learned from my experience is...I only carry the essentials. anything else I leave at home. basically all I really need is two things of ID (something with a photo..i.e. license, and something without...birth certificate) and then my debit card. the rest stays at HOME now!! don't carry cash anymore either since everyone accepts debit.

yeah I have that problem too. I've had other things besides a wallet stolen too...argh :|

jinglingxl,
I hope you ace your final and those responsible get caught. I got robbed at the Atlanta Airport while I slept. Slit my pocket with a knife or razor and took my wallet. Good Luck:)

That royally sucks dude. I had a similar problem in college because my a-hole roomate insisted on keeping our dorm room unlocked so his a-hole friends from down the hallway could have access to our room whenever they wanted because they used to borrow each other's stuff all the time. The stupid ass refused to see my point when I complained about this. He didn't seem to care that I had $4500.00 of computer equipment along with other expensive stuff. We werre in the closest room to the main entrance and starcase, so it would be easy for someone to grab my stuff and disappear.

Luckily, I never had anything stolen except for some little stuff. But, the increased stress over the whole issue drove me nuts. Half of the time, these morons he called friends would show up to borrow something when I was there and had the door locked because I was "entertaining" a female friend. I swear they sometimes spent more time in our room than in their own.
