**** Just Got Real in Japan

Just saw this @ OCN

Just this week, TEPCO released a report on this China Syndrome event. The containment vessels are being systematically eaten by a molten mass of core materials. They are chemically reacting with cement which is not rock but rather, is a water-permeable material that reacts to heat .

The molten core of several Fukushima Daiichi reactors is sinking through the Earth’s crust and appears to be in early stages of a “China Syndrome”. If fuel reaches an underground water vein, it will cause contamination of underground water, soil contamination and sea contamination. Moreover, if the underground water vein keeps being heated for long time, a massive hydrovolcanic explosion will be caused.

Right when I read the title I knew it was going to be about the nuclear reactor.

Can anyone explain to me how serious this is? I keep hearing things about how oooo... IT is not as serious as three mile island or Chernobyl.

From the OP:

So...pretty bad.

If this is true, then apocalypse will be upon us! The Earth is doomed! Looks like it's time to get the bucket list out.

Water table poisoned for 10,000 years.

Radioactive steam vents popping up.. holy crap. Won't be visiting Japan anytime soon.

Three mile island is nothing compared to this.

Won't need these any more.

I looked over a translated version of the pdf. The danger is real. The problem seems to be that the concrete reacted with the core temps and carbon and has created a crust that is insulating the fuel from above so that the water being used to cool it isn't reaching the fuel and the temps are increasing. The more water they add the more it cools of course but it also creates a thicker crust above the fuel lowering the cooling ability of the water.

They have two scenarios. One where the core melts and flows outward melting the containment and another where it melts downwards and is cooled around the edges and remains in containment. They use the words uncertain, and cannot be determined so if I was in Japan I would be greatly concerned.
