Company I used to work for (left over a year ago) calls me and wants to rehire me at a much higher salary than what I made there previously. The salary they offered me is higher than what I'm making right now. But it would mean:

Commuting to NYC again (or renting in the city which is ridiculously expensive);
Getting back into corporate America;
Relying on computers for my livelihood again;
Working again for an art director whom I despise;
Working in a really high-pressure high-stress enviroment again.

I think I'm going to turn down the offer.

Yes, unlike others, I don't dash to my computer the instant I walk in the door to post about everything that happened in my day. :p

I don't know.

I love my job and am proud of the job I do. I love the people I work with, the people I work for, and the people who work for me.

However, overall I'm nowhere near happy. I think I'm proving to myself that it's silly to try to find meaning through work and that the only thing that can satisfy me is truly enjoying what I do from 5pm to 9am...

That said, from the persepctive I've developed, you might as well just get a job that pays lots of money.

Maybe you can negotiate yourself into a better position? It wouldn't hurt to try, maybe not be working with that person, and maybe something else.
Otherwise it doesn't sound like you would like it at all. You may want to negotiate in person, make it look like you're really serious, and they may be more willing.

Won't work.
They want to hire me to be a graphic designer. I would have to work under the art director. It's the nature of the job.

Hm, well I don't know the details, but nothing is etched in stone. Even the nature of your job can be changed. It can depend on the size of the firm.
