So i've been using the web on my treo for about a month and a half....I've been paying for the $4.99 tzones plan, and life was good...i even called about 8 reps to double check that tzones could browse the web and that's what it was for...browsing 3rd party sites; they ALL said yes. I was very happy.

Suddenly about 3 weeks ago it stopped working...

I called them up last week, and asked what was going on, and they appologized and said they were having some trouble with tzones, and it would be back up shortly.....alright, that's fine...thanks for being honest, i can accept that.

I've had tmobile for about a year now, and have NEVER had a problem with them...great service, customer care, etc; even reccomended them to EVERYONE....but this just put me over....

Today I call again, just to check up, and they tell me i can no longer access the internet via tzones! WTF?! I've been using it for about 1.5 months, and all was good...i had 8 reps tell me i could...here's a chunk of our convo:

Rep: Yeah, we recently kind of changed the specs on that plan and got rid of that feature
Me: But since I was a customer, and had that plan and feature prior to your change, should i not get to still use it?
Rep: Well, you were using a $20 service and paying $5 for it
Me: I don't know what i wasn't paying, or what service i should have had; all i know is 8 reps told me i should buy tzones for $4.99, and that would let me access all third party websites.
Rep: They were right, but we just changed that; you can still browse the tzones web pages though
Me: I have no use for tzones web pages, I bought this service for the sole intent of browsing third party website.
Rep: I understand, but if you want to use tzones, perhaps you should consider downgrading your phone?
Me: DOWNGRADING? YOU WANT ME TO DOWNGRADE FROM THE PHONE I PAID $500 FOR 2 MONTHS AGO?!?!?
Rep: I appologize sir, but i can't do anything...if you'd like I can bump you up to the Wireless internet though for $15 a month more

the rest is bs, he kept saying the same thing, and i just got madder and madder...

<rant>
Can they just do that?!?!? :|

Out of frustration, I had them cancel my goddam tzones...well guess what? Now i can't check my friggin email!! goddam it!!! :|

now i'm FORCED to get tzones, just for my email...i get nothing else out of it....i could get tmobile internet, but it's to damn expensive!!

I have a $2.99 T-zone plan, since I picked it up a long time ago. I just checked and I can still access sites by entering any URL I feel like.

I just went to the wap site on my server which definately isn't part of Tzones and it pulled right up.

Are you sure you didn't just get one of the normal clueless reps?

he said that because the treos were such powerful phones, and could use tzones to browse third party sites, they got rid of the feature 3 weeks ago...wtf? people are still able to browse it on their little nokia phones, which the guy had the nerve to tell me to downgrade to...but since i paid $500 for my phone, they think i'm rich and can afford $20/mo for internet? That's total BS

Tell them that you have a valid contract, and that if they refuse to honor that contract you will have no choice but to beak the contract based on thier lack of fulfilling that contract.

While his use of contract spun my head, Ulfwald's absolutely correct.

You had a contract, and TMobile does NOT have the right to break that contract on its own. Call and explain that you will cancel service and switch to (insert competitor here) and will also be filing a complaint with (FCC? I forget if they regulate the cell industry...) if they do NOT give you the service you signed up for.

The fact that they suddenly changed their minds after providing you the service for 1 1/2 months is proof that they intentionally violated the terms of the original contract.

their claim was that the service was not "originally intended" for that, and "treo 600" phone were so powerful, that they could do that....however before my treo, i could browse websites even from my nokia 3650...it was slower, but it's got a slower processor. I was doing that for about 6-7 months before my treo.

EDIT: NOW I UNDERSTAND WHY THE GUY WAS SO EAGER TO CANCEL MY T-ZONES!!!! i made a big mistake letting him do so, now i no longer have the server, and by re-joining it, I'm technically agreeing to their new T&C.....stupid @ssfvck :|

Now i'm forced to get the tmobile internet :(

Basically, they can do whatever they want, and you can vote with your wallet. Call them up and let them know you no longer want their service, that you will be filing a complaint with the BBB and with your local state AG (deceptive trade practices), and that you will switch to a competitor. What they do after that is up to them. Then follow through and file those complaints, CC'ing them on each letter you send.

That may be true but he did cancel his "t-zone" service or whatever it's called so he's not under the same contract anymore. If he wants to get it back, he'll be forced to agree to the new T&C.

Yes, this is the infamous Port 80 closure. howardforums.com will give you all the info you need. Basically, T-Mobile was giving everyone free internet access, and they decided that this was a stupid business model. Many are outraged about this, but it seems as if most of those mad did infact go ahead and sign up for the $19.99 plan. T-Mo will make more money with those who sign up for $15 more a month than those who just cancel t-zones all together.

Long story short? There's absolutely nothing you can do about it. Either upgrade to the $19.99 plan to get what you were getting before, or be without. You're lucky you had internet access for this long now. Most others were denied earlier this month.

blurredvision, I agree there's not a whole lot you can do about it, but you can most certainly file complaints and let them know that simply unilaterally changing a service like that is not a good thing to do to your customers, and that they pay a significant PR price by doing so.

Yeah, I agree its crap they upped the price like that. With Sprint its always been grandfathered, at least for me. The new terms should apply for people getting service after the new policy takes effect. Those who had it prior to the policy change should not have to pay more.
