just got a new M-Audio LX4 2.1 system from samash for $216 (store pickup)
it replaced my Logitech Z-2300

sound card: Audigy 2 ZS platinum

i've always known that they produce much more accurate and better quality sound than the logitechs but i didn't know if they were louder.. i was wrong boy were they loud. sub doesn't have the PUNCH that the logitech does but that is a good thing as the logitech speakers only had a boomy bass and squeaky highs with no mids.

The new lx4's hit every note in the music i listen to: rock, rap, r&b, pop, slow jams, trance
and i can urn them up 90% before the slightest hint of distortion. (i've already had my neighbors complain twice in 2 days)

The subwoofer is enough for most everyone as i was worried that this subwoofer wasn't as powerful but it hits enough to satisfy me (20 yr old college student).

my room is approx 15x15x15 feet in dimension and it fills the entire room with sound when watching dvd's and movies. when sitting in my chair i'm completely surrounded by a sphere of sound where the ambient noises are mostly drowned out.

con's: doesn't come with the y-cable to connect to your PC. volume + subcontrol on the subwoofer, no headphone jack, no satellite grill (necessary for some, not for me).

hope this review helped

Nice. I also have the LX4 2.1 system, but I just play my keyboard thru them. They're pretty bright I think, but articulate. Drum kits sound lively, strings have a nice woody texture and organs and bass are full and round. I'm quite happy with them.

Musicians Friend was selling the 2.1 and throwing in the rear and center channels for free a year or so ago. I missed out on that deal (already had these anyway) but that woulda been nice, eh? :)
