i think i got a problem.

I just got a new broadband inet connection in Jackson, TN.
They're using a Fiber network (eplus network) - i got 4MB/384 which is ok for my needs.

There is a LAN outlet right there, so no modem is needed etc. and i dont have a router yet. (Planning to hook up 2 more desktops and a lappy).

But that's not my problem !

My problem is that i started several programs (eg. utorrent) and check what ports can be opened or forwarded. NONE. I did tests on "shield's up" and scanned a range of ports. All are in "stealth".

So...for bittorrent etc. i checked ports 32459, 50000, etc... ANY port i could possible use for incoming connections but i cant use anything.

So....i also enabled my upnp/ssdp device discovery again in the hope i can do something with UPNP...but it doesnt help.

How on earth can it be that all incoming ports to my machine are closed ??? Any idea what to do ?

thanks

Btw. i am on DHCP in XP right now which assigned me an automatic private IP in case this matters. (Before i had comcast cable and a linksys router...and i had static IPs for my machines..and NO problems whatsoever to open and forward certain ports to whatever PC.)

Edit: allmost forgot to mention...of course i do NOT have ANY firewall active, disabled the XP firewall and also disabled imon in NOD32...basically running the same config as with comcast.

If you have an RFC1918 IP address there is some sort of NAT going on somewhere. If you don't control the NAT device, you're screwed. 😉
