I just got a 27" Panasonic Flat screen at Circuit City for $500 - not a hot deal, but I needed it...

Of course I was offered the extended warranty plan but declined as I have heard that they are a big money maker for stores and that modern electronics are so reliable that it is generally not necessary.

Does anybody have any opinions of them at all?

For a $500 TV, No

For a $5000 TV, Yes

But that is just me. I hate insurance policies!

usually no. maybe on cellular phones and PDAs to fix dust problems. perhaps xbox and logitech z560s.

though it did come in handy on a lemon camera i had.

Cool cool, just wanted some opinions - there was a similar thread a week ago but the dude got a $3500 TV with a $100 3 year warranty - almost what mine would have cost, for a $500 TV.

BTW, the TV is great, i have no issues at all with it. The NICE thing about the CC warranty is that if it breaks in 2 1/2 years, you get a new tv that is of the same value as this one, so in essence, you will get another good tv. You could always say your tv has some text distortion in the corners(most flat screens do).

Off topic, but did anyon try that "A buck a day" deal you always see on TV? It's a 27" Panasonic Flatscreen TV, a 20" Panasonic Flatscreen TV, and some kind of (Sony?) DVD player. It's eaither a buck a day for about 3 years or a payment of $999. I thought you could just sell the 20" and the DVD player and you could almost have the 27" for free.

Those prices are Canadain too. So that's about $630 US for 2 TV's and a DVD player! Good deal if you ask me! :)

I was wondering if I'd be the first to bring up that Simpsons episode.
