Here's what I don't understand. He was driving behind me for 30 seconds before he hit the lights and siren. How did he know my inspectiopn was overdue? Did he run my plates that quickly?

Punched your plate into his lappy and got a response.

most police forces have trunk radios that connect them with the intranet, and sometimes the internet. they could tgrace your record in less than 30 most likely. i had my license suspended 9 times (that i got caught for) along with 2 expired registration tickets and a couple no insurance tickets. take care of that stuff, i shirked mine on purpose. took a long time to dig out of that hole.

How did you get your license suspended NINE times??! 😕

Seriously. WTF did you do?

Apparently, my car was six months overdue for registration renewal and I didn't have the foggiest clue. 🙁 I must've missed the DMV letter in the mail. Nobody's fault but my own.
They wouldn't let me drive the car home, I had to park it in a private parking lot, I had no idea who's lot it was (the garage was closed), and I had to have it towed home.

Could've been alot worse I guess. I could've been on my way to somewhere important.

Did he stop you for any other reason besides expired registration? He probably ran your plates while pacing you, but IIRC he needs to have a reason. i could be wrong though.

The good thing is you can log on to accessdmv.com and renew your registration online and start driving the car again right away. (You dont need to wait for the docs)

Where did you get nailed? GSP, NJTP, 287? What township/county?

Anytime you drive onto a federal installation they love to check for this. They'll usually tow your car on the spot. Then run a criminal check on you for warrants.

i did the same like 6 years ago. i forgot about it and it was 6 months late. a cop just happened to be behindme and nailed me for it.

he wrote me a fix it ticket and told me to get a new one and it woldnt be a problem. he also let me drive home.

i had to buy a new one etc.

wow.. they're pretty strict....

even when my 'inspection' was expired for 1 month, they gave me a week get it inspected to avoid any fines. in virginia.

Inspection and registration renewals are easy to forget, even though there's dates right there on the windshield. 🙁

They put dates on your windshield still? Welcome to 1980. They haven't done that since the 80's here in TN.

Wow.

Inspection date is on the inspection sticker. Not registration.

yeah..i was suprised they can see the number on the inspection sticker even..i got pulled on the highway.

i guess they could tell from the color of your registration. here it changes every year.

ummm doesn't american rego have a little sticker that you put up in one corner of your windscreen that has when the rego is due, when you paid it and your cars rego details on it like we have here in Australia.

Here in Cali, the DMV issue colored stickers with the month it expires. As to why the government makes you register your car every year, its to get a smog check every 2 years for cars older than x number of years, plus you cannot get a car re-registered unless you show proof of insurance.

that's pretty much how it works here in Australia...the colour of the sticker changes each year ...I have a pretty blue one this year...last year it was brown.

Wouldn't let you drive home? WTF?

In Michigan your registration expires on your birthday Pretty hard to forget. They also change the color of the sticker each year and it goes in the license plate. Pretty easy for cops to spot if you are current or not.

Registration in Cali is done in tandem with smog checks....keeps gross polluters off the street. One of the big reasons we can breathe (somewhat) in LA now, at least compared to the 1970s...

What a ****** asshole. Its pricks like this guy that give good cops a bad name. There is no reason why he shouldn't have let you drive it home.

The reason many states stopped having the stickers on the plate is because of theft.
People would just grab a new sticker off a car instead of paying for their own.

Registration is a huge deal with cops for some reason... you really should check this out QUICK wherever you are.

They will fvck you like the taliban dude.

There is nothing but revenue generation.

what about crime? making sure ownership is current. tracking people, tickets, etc.

Is it true that there is no road inspection for cars in Michigan?

That is a very good point actually.

I got a ticket for the same offense last year from a local cop. It was $114. The cop saw the tag in the windshield <at a T section stoplight>and pulled me over. He wrote the ticket and let me on my way.

Inspection sticker is the big one <the size is about half of your hand> in color in the left of the windshield, Registration sticker <thumb size> is in the bottom left of the license plate.

Inspection is good here because they check for up to date insurance coverage. We have one of the highest rate of uninsured drivers driving around down here.

No, he only stopped me because of my expired reg.
He was stopped behind me at a red light.
It was local, not on a highway, Ocean County.

Once I got pulled over for speeding and it turns out that my license was suspended. I had no idea.

A friend of mine was pulled over and arrested because his license was suspended, he didn't know either. BS to the 10th degree..
