All I have to say is... it's MASSIVE!!!
http://i41.tinypic.com/1zz4cvb.jpg

I was not expecting it to be that big. Here it is in comparison to the stock 7850 cooler:

I had to remove the heat spreader from the first RAM chip in order to make this fit.

Also, the mounting for the fan sucks, those little plastic plugs won't hold anything. At least now I get to have an intake-exhaust system going.

I haven't had a chance to test out my new fan, I'm also in the process of repainting the case:

First layer, with sanding due to mess ups.

Funny, the fan mounts on my Xigmatek work quite well and hold an S-Flex fan very securely.

i agree, the fan mounts work very well if you use them properly, they were a pain to get onto the fan.

Yes, they work as they should, but they are a massive pain in the ass! It's hard to put them onto the fan and even harder: to secure them onto the heatsink, sometimes bending a few fins while doing it. Also, after a couple of fans remounting, they are staring to break.
But they are doing a very good job in keeping the fan vibrations away from our years. ;)

Those rubber bands won't last long in closed-case conditions, so you'd better learn how to use the proper mountings if you don't want a "falling fan zone". Further, closed corner fans like the ones you show in the first pic can make mounting to a heat sink a PITA... Zoom the product pic on this page- http://www.jab-tech.com/YATE-L...-D12SL-12-pr-3009.html -and you'll find pix of the same fan with open and closed corners if you don't understand what I mean. Closed corners, if done correctly, can make for a stronger, quieter fan, but the drawbacks may be too great for some applications.

I'm thinking I don't have the rubber plugs in all the way, is the tapered part of the rubbre plug supposed to get through the entire screw hole? I tried pulling it but it feels like the rubbers going to break.

Also, what might be another option to do a dual fan system? Is it even worth it. The only thing is that because of this cooler I have to remove one of the side fans, so I figured I'd reuse it.

When you put the plugs in the fan there will be a satisfying *plunk* when it pops through as the biggest part gets through the hole. Get it through the hole partially, then grab some pliers and work it through the rest. The rubber is stronger than you might think

I literally had to pull them thru with a pair of pliers. They are really difficult to completely slip thru. Don't be afraid to use a lot of elbow grease.

You can use your fingers too, but it's harder.

Well I ended up pushing it through using a precision screwdriver, it makes it a lot easier. Still waiting for the case to dry..

So what to do with a spare 120mm? Any way to mount it in the front of a RC-690 (two intakes)?

The top area in the front of the case is for 5 and 1/4" drives, and the bottom (sideways) area is for 3 and 1/2" floppies, right?

If you only have one or two DVD drives, could you mount a fan above or below them? That way you could have fresh air coming in the front, going into the heat sink / fan, and blowing out the back. Ideally, you'd want two fans in front for intake, and the rest for exhaust.

I'm not familiar with the case though, maybe there's already a fan in the area I described.

There's enough room for a fan, but I was wondering if there was a way to attach it. The front panel pieces have holes but they don't line up. If I have to I can just zip-tie the fans to the front.

Ok, so I finally put my computer together, and now the xigmatek fan doesn't spin. Every couple of seconds or so it moves a little, but it never actually spins. It looks like its getting stuck on something but I don't see anything around the fan and I can push it easily with my finger. Dead fan?

EDIT: Even without the fan I'm seeing a 10C drop. :)

Yep, even with no fans in my case spinning, my xigmatek outperforms stock intel cooler at maxed speed :)

Speaking of this cooler, I have just taken my case out for a dust clean and one of the stupid rubber screws broke. I'm using zip ties to keep the fan in place now. Horrible. :(
