Whats the deal with wisdom teeth? Why to some people need to have them removed?

What is dry socket?

Hope you have a speedy recovery :)

Had the two lower ones taken out, not oo bad...the right side feels fine, it was already all the way out and showing, straight up and down as a regular tooth, quick and easy.
The second one was stickng out, not impacted but it was at about a 45 degree angle, so he had to do a ton more work on it and that side of my head hurts like hell....

Anyone else go through this and know what the recovery time was?

It took three days for it to stop seeping.

Mine arent seeping at all, no blod or anything. Dentist called to day and said they came out really easy, took about 45 minutes total.

When you get your wisdom teeth out it leave a big old hole in your gums, the hole files with a blood clot, to promote healing.
It turns into tissue then into bone and gum.

Dry socket is when you lose that blood clot that is sitting inthe hole, smoking, spitting sucking on a straw..anything that causes vacumm can pop it out and thenvoila you have a dry socket.
It is open and there is nothing between the bone and the outside world...hear it hurts like hell and they have to put some crap into it until it does heal up fully. Makes for a much longer recovery time.

Now at about 30 hours since i got them removed and I feel pretty damn good...people keep saying i might see swelling after 48 hours but I dont think so. (fingers crossed!)
The whol gapping hole in my gums is a bit of a pain when eating, but tomorrow I can start rinsing with warm water and salt the times a day so this should take care of any particles I might have in there after chowig down on some pizza or chinese food. :)

Well..I spoke to soon!
My left side of my face was all swollen when i woke up this morning, right on time 48 hours like they said would happen.
I am just feeling stiff in the jaw, the swelling is more of an annoyance.

Hopefully it doesnt get any worse..I did notice the hole on my right side is already closing up, so that must be a good thing!

I wanted mine removed because every so often, food would get stuck between my one of my lower wisdom teeth (which are both impacted) and my gums would get infected, which hurts like a mofo. It's been about 24 hours since mine got removed and nothing too bad yet *crosses fingers*
