Just got my Rebel X2i 18-55 IS

I have been using the pentax k10D with 18-55mm + 70-300m Tamron f4/5.6 for 2 years or so. Few days ago, I bought a brand new Rebel X2i kit from amazon for $588+tax (promo with glitch) and it arrived at my home today.

Took couple of shots under low light and some videos...wow what a difference from my pentax. It is the same 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 lens as the pentax but low light pictures are just incredible (I have a prime lens coming by the way). There seems to be many manual controls for the X2i as well as customization. I am aware that the canon lens is IS, but my pentax is equipped with inbody shake reduction feature....maybe canon IS is much better, allowing me to shoot at lower aperture with faster shutter speed.

The build quality is much better on k10d (heavier, weather proof body) but I am happy with how X2i performs (including its incredible HD video)

I am currently using Adata 16GB Class 6 Turbo SDHC and it's not giving me any buffering issues with the video. I may hold off on buying the 32GB.
 
At first, I thought you meant XSi. Then I'm like, $588+tax? Then you said "video", and realized you got a T2i for $588+tax. Nice!!

Did you get your 50mm f/1.8 yet? This lens is almost always on my camera. I think i'm going to upgrade to the f/1.4 as the optics are a good bit sharper.

The canon kit lens is a zoom lens 18-55mm, with an aperture of f/3.5-5.6.

The "Nifty Fifty" is a Canon 50mm fixed focal length lens (non zoom) (which for our purposes is actually more like using an 80mm lens, because the sensor in our cameras is a "crop" sensor, it's not the size of a 35mm negative.) It also opens up to f1.8 to let in significantly more light than the kit lens' f/3.5-5.6, which will enable you to easily take pics in low light conditions, and experiment with the shallow depth of field a f1.8 lens can do.

The Nifty Fifty is stupid cheap for a lens with it's specs and results. Sure, there's better, but for a hundred bucks? No brainer.
 
Just got my prime lens (50/1.8)
Great pictures under lowlight settings! and overall excellent image quality.
I no longer have shakes and grains on my photos taken in my apt.

I heard a lot of people mentioning about it's poor build quality, but it's the same plastic material as the body of T2i. It may feel and look funky on 7D, but it rather matches nicely with the cheap T2i body.

This would be the only lens I'd be using from today and on.

Glad to hear! As mentioned earlier, it's a no brainer for the price.
