my home theater consists of:

Sony Bravia 52in XBR5
ONKyo SR605
Bose VCS10 (Center)
2 x Polk R50 (Front Sat)
2 x Bose 161 (Rear Sat)
Polk PSW10 (sub) <~~~~ (NEW)

Hows my HT looking? i know, its very basic but the family doesn't have much money to spend on HT stuff

i've yet to hook up the Subwoofer, anyone have any tips/suggestions on hooking it up? or is it just PNP?

Hook it up from the subwoofer pre-out on your 605 to one of the line-level inputs on it.

Run the auto setup again on the 605 and make sure to set the crossover to 80Hz or so on the 605 if it doesn't do that already.

To add to that, if you dont like the sound of it, try moving it around to another location. Ideally, you would place the sub on your couch and you would crawl around the floor to where it sounded the best. That would be where you place the subwoofer.

It looks very similar to my setup:
  • Pioneer 5080 (50" Plasma)
    Panasonic XR55 (Receiver)
    2 x Polk R50 (Mains)
    Polk CSi25 (Center)
    2 x Polk R15 (Surrounds)
    Polk PSW350 (sub)
I really like my setup. I didn't want to spend crazy amounts of money on it, but I didn't want to get some cheap HTIB either. I bought the R15 over a year ago but just installed them last month. The system is MUCH better with the surrounds installed. I got the 5080 last month as well. It's quite a nice upgrade of my Sanyo 27" CRT :).

Edit: I started building my system 2 years ago. If I do get the upgrade bug, I might move my entire current system (except the plasma) into the computer room and start from scratch. That'll probably be at least a year away though.

similar, but yours def sounds better haha

i'm stuck with muddy bose center and surrounds. got them as gifts a while ago so i figured i'd be wasting them if i bought new surrounds. + your sub def owns mine haha

then again, i don't get to turn my system up much. have grandparents and children in the home that sleep early

Frys.com has the CSi25 on sale for around $80 shipped and a pair of R15 for $50 shipped a couple of times every year. That's where I got mine. You can find decent deals on ebay too. That's where I got my sub and surrounds. I would think that the CSi25 would be a big upgrade for you. I don't find it muddy at all. Also, it would timbre match your R50. This provides a front sound stage that will blend together very well. If it's set up well enough, you shouldn't be able to tell a difference between the sounds from the center speaker and the mains.

Actually, I think the new model numbers are CSR instead of CSi25 and R150 instead of R15. Here are the product pages at Frys: CSR & R150. They don't have free shipping right now, but they're still decent prices.

You could put the Bose on craigslist and sell it to get the new center rather than putting it in the closet.

I wouldn't be surprised. Bose equipment does seem to hold it's value fairly well in my experience (just based on browsing e-bay/craigslist from time to time). You could probably sell your current stuff and upgrade to a matched set of the polks all around for next to nothing.
