Hey all, I got my OCZ Rally 1GB Flash Drive from the UPS man today, and thought I'd write a little review of the unit for any people searching these forums in the future looking for info on these drives, or those looking at getting one now.

First Impressions:
Out of the package, this thing is small. I thought my old PNY Attache drive was small, but this thing makes that look almost mammoth as flash drives go. It is a little small than 3 sticks of Wrigleys Gum stacked on one another in my guestimation. The + side to this is that it will not cover the second USB port if you are plugging it into a stacked USB port. This sucker is fast too. Wrote a 900+MB video file to it in 1 minutes time. However performance drops dramatically when copying a bunch of little tiny files. (Still WAY faster than the PNY attache was though) Another interesting tidbit, the casing gets a bit warm after prolonged activity...

Cosmetically this thing is pretty sharp. It is lighter than I expected it to be, and feels flimsy, yet durable at the same time if that makes any sense. The metal casing is solid, but the lack of heft makes it seem wimpier than it probably is. The unit is not all metal however, there are small plastic rings on either end of the unit, the back end of the unit lights up Blue when plugged into a USB port, and flashes with drive activity. The cap is also a metal/plastic hybrid, and it is keyed so you can only install the cap one way (which I find to be quite annoying). The Rally logo takes up most of one side, and is a bit on the tacky side, but I can live with it. I bought this thing for function not a silk screened graphic on the side.

So after 1 full day of use I am quite pleased with the unit. I realize 1 day is hardly benchmark of the true usefulness of the drive, but so far it impresses.

Pros:
- FAST... FASTER... LUDICROUS SPEED!!!!
- Super Slim
- Durable casing
- Reasonable Price for what you are getting

Cons:
- Cap is "1 way only"
- Could use just a bit more heft to it
- Blue LED is a bit annoying
- Not All metal... (My last 3 Flash Drives have all met their doom from broken plastic parts :( )

You should at least run HDTach and give us some real numbers.

I've been dying to get my hands on one of those based on one review I read. I'd really value some numbers if you could get them though.

I recently got a hot deal on a 512mb memorex drive and it blows away this one first gen 64mb drive I got like 7 years ago.

No surprise there, but as I said, I'd love to see some numbers associated with this "dual channel" business.

As a comparison, once he's done that:

Short Test
SanDisk Cruzer Titanium 2000 (512MB)
Random Access: 0.9ms
CPU Utilization: 5% (+/- 2%)
Average Read: 16.4MB/s

Long Test:
Same results as above (less than a .1% variance)

O Rally? :p

I received the 512MB at my office the other day but have not had a chance to use it. I noticed that it says Dual Channel on the packaging.
