One month after I bought my first car (brand new car at that) I got in an accident that was my fault. $2500 damage to my car and at least that much to the other guy. I was 25 at the time of the accident so my insurance already reflected that age. It was the first accident under my own insurance, and the first accident I've been in that was my fault.

Five months later I get my new 6 month insurance quote - it went up a whopping $4. Is this unusual? I was expecting it to go up more than that since I'm young and it was my fault.

At any rate, Progressive has been awesome. They have a big service center a few miles from here and it was completely painless to get the car fixed. All I did was drop it off there, get a rental, then pick it up when it was fixed.

Many factors come into play here besides your age. Even though you may have been at fault - was a police report written up? were you cited by the police as being at fault? Where you live, where the accident took place, the road conditions at the time of the accident, accident history at the location, amount of claims from where you live. Many Many things.

I used to live in the Philadelphia, PA area and my rates would change when I moved based on my ZIP code. Even if the move was only over a total of 3 miles.

Did they even take your accident into account? I got a speeding ticket and progressive increased my rate by $200 on my 6 month policy. Also, I am not sure, but Progressive may also waive your first accident.

A lot of new drivers get first accident forgiveness built into their policy. This is probably that case. For the love of god do not have another one. You will not be able to afford the insurance at that point.

I have multiple collisions on my record, when I still had my 02 Protege 5, the insurance on it was about the same as the insurance my wife pays for the 06 MB E350 4Matic.

The kicker is, her insurance was comprehensive, mine was just 3rd party liability.
