Just got my new hard drive......got a few questions

I bought a 46.1 GB IBM Deskstar 75GXP hard drive. When I opened up the box there were two packages of something called "Silica Gel". Does anyone know what this stuff is and what it does? And do I need it? I haven't installed the drive yet. Thanks.

The silica Gel just absorbs moisture so it keeps ur HD nice and fresh! There are tiny pores in the plastic bag (u can notice that the bag doesn't have that smooth feel most plastic bags have) that allow moisture to seep into the silica gel.
