Just got my new 7900GT's from eVGA

FINALLY got my 2 new shiny 7900GT's from evga (and crappy UPS) today. :D

So I plug them in, boot up into windows and everything starts artifacting like hell. Now, I'm not really sure whats wrong at this point. I've tried a remount of the HS, tried different HS, etc. Now in the end everything works out ok cause I'm typing this and I'm still happy with my 7900GT's.
It turns out that some setting in the bios (PEG link mode, I THINK) was the culprit. Disabled it, and then it ran fine. Strange thing is after I reenabled it it didn't artifact again!?


ANYWAY, turned on 3dmark05 and got 13,500 3dmarks. Is that good for 7900GT's in SLI?

Right now the cards are at 550/1600 and I don't really plan on going anyhigher on that dinky little HS. Luckly I got WC standing by.

BTW, Artifacting is caused by my Motherboard. Just had to change a setting and everything is fine, ok?

You might need to flash its BIOS. Dunno. All this artifacting has me worried since my 7800GTOC was working perfectly when I RMAed. I wonder if eVGA got the better deal.

The artifacting was weird though, it wouldn't show up at first, then it would. Not really sure how I fixed it, but I fixed it.

you say you jsut got your cards from evga? how did you order them when they have been on backorder for weeks now?

Yup, I was in the step up program. They must have gotten a couple hundred for the step up people seperatly.

Hey...I too recieved my two 7900GT's on Tuesday (3/28/06).

I was also having general stability problems, as well as the random artifacting. I have a Gigabyte motherboard and I was able to solve the artifacting by changing the PCI-E bus mode from turbo to normal...I'm not sure what the actual setting was called but thats what did it for me.

I was still having stability problems so I went ahead and formatted and did a fresh install. Now its rock hard stable and I even gained a few FPS in most games. I had upgraded from two 6800GT's so I don't think it was a driver issue so who knows.

Felt like time to format anyways.

I believe Evga made a statement about their BIOS being F'd up on some of their 7900 GT's, unfortunately its an RMA or a BIOS update.
In regards to your 3dMark05 score, I have near enough exact the same system and specs, I get around that aswell, so I'd say it was about right. The best I got was 13686 and that was with 550/1500.
I get 8628 in 3dmark06.

I'm hoping after my volt mod, Zalman VF900 install and further Oc's I can break the 14k and 9k barriers.

That sounds like an okay score(s). My 7800 GT SLI setup gets about 3,000 or so more points than my brothers 7800 GT single, so a 7900 GT SLI getting about the same increase is probably right.

Why is everyone crazy about the new Zalman's though? They haven't put forth any crazy cool numbers to be worth the $50. Is everyone that much into having a "wow" factor or what?

I am having random freezes in 3Dmark and Quake 4. It just freezes for about 15 seconds, then it starts working again. Then it doesn't really do it again. Annoying, but I am not ready to send my 7900GT SC back yet. I am using WinXPx64 so I hope that it is just a driver issue. I read that you can flash your video BIOS somewhere. Anyone know how to do that? Is there a link someone can send me?

Email eVGA about it and they will send you a BIOS file that you can then flash with a floppy drive or a bootable ISO.

Also freezes in 3D apps may be a heat issue. How are your temps?

My Video Cards are FINE!!!!!!!!!!!

The issue was with my MOTHERBOARD, ALRIGHT!?!?!?!?!? :p

I just had to set the PEG link mode to AUTO instead of NORMAL. ALRIGHT!?!?!? :p

Now that thats cleared up....lol :p

Check out 3dmark scores ( @ 552/820 (1640)):
3dmark05: 13688
3dmark06: 8488

They seem about right?

Weird - you only get about 1000 more marks than my 7800gts, and my cpu is the same speed is yours.

Even the 06 scores? I've found that 3dmark05 theirs not much difference, but in 06, there's a little more difference.
