I know dead pixels are common on LCD's but what would you guys do?

I can only notice it when the screen is black and this 1 little red pixel stands out like dogs nuts. Whith white or other colours I can't notice it.

Believe it or not, you may have a hard time returning it, a lot of companies wont accept reason for return on dead pixels unless you have 5 or 6 dead pixels... I remember a hardware site did a comparison between a bunch of companies, and I seem to remember the best was hercules because they said they would replace a screen with 'only' 3 dead pixels. Sony were the worst I think... Maybe someone knows the article Im talking about - it was like a year ago...

HAha, I got an Eizo Flexscan l550 a week or so ago..it has one red subpixel, almost in the middle. It won't go back on pixel policy of course, but here in Sweden a law says you can return anything as long as it is 'virtually unchanged' within 14 days....well, guess what this little TFt-beauty has? A counter, counting the number of hours it has been on. So it is no longer 'virtually unchanged', just because of that..I'm pondering whether to try and send it back anyway though. Might loose ~100 u$d, and get it back again, or loose ~60 and get a new one, because the company might not check that counter,.,gah, decisions.
If there's no similiar law for you, you prolly have to get used to it.

Samsung is up at like 8 or 12 dead pixels or something I think I read on Tom's. I have used 3 samsung lcd's all with at least 2 dead pixels (mine are just dead, no color, so it hasn't been a big deal.)

Fraid so, I dont know specifically about Samsung btw...

EDIT: This is exactly the reason I decided to get a 22" CRT and not a 24" Sony Widescreen LCD...

Return it. If it bothers you now, it won't cease to bother you in the future. Companies think they can get away with shipping substandard displays - don't let them get away with it.

I've read many stories about people putting down $2500 for an Apple Powerbook, getting a hot white pixel dead center in the screen, and Apple refusing to replace it (basically leaving the owner with a mostly functional machine with an annoying defect and severely reduced resale value).

Edit - the flaw in your display is technically a "stuck" or "hot" pixel (continuously displays a color), as opposed to a "dead" pixel, which is always off. Dead pixels are definitely better than stuck ones, since dead ones are less noticeable.

Send it back and say you won't work with your system or something. Dead pixels are one thing, but red hot is another, especially if you're into gaming or watching movies on the display. I had a Viewsonic that had one dead and two stuck pixels, and the stuck pixels (both red) near the middle of the screen were enough for me to send it back. Watching movies was impossible, I just sat there staring at the red dots, kicking my own rear end for dropping close to a grand on a defective display.

always buy lcds from brick and mortar stores that allow quick returns. lcd makers have insane tolerances for dead pixels, they won't let u exchange unless u got something horrific most of the time. its kind of a scam how they get away with selling consumers defective products. i'd rather pay a little extra for a perfect lcd then roll the dice. i'm sure other people/applications wouldn't mind a few dead pixels at discount.

If it is really bothering you... return it. Is it in the middle of the screen or something?

it's not in the middle, it's off to the left and up a little. It's my second display on my dual monitor setup so it'll be mainly used for documents & web browsing and I can't notice the pixel when doing those things. I'll use my CRT for gaming. I'll have a think about it and speak to the company I purchased it off.

If it's going to bother you, return it, and if they won't let you, keep pressuring. I had a Samsung LCD 2 years ago, with a single red pixel stuck on in the center. The store refused a return and informed me that 7 (or maybe it was 10... ) pixels were required for a warranty replacement. I took the unit to Samsung and complained at length and eventually received a new unit. Everytime I use a friend's computer with bad pixels I am thankful that I took the time to complain.

When I got my 19" Dell LCD, I eventually discovered 2 dead pixels (or "hot" pixels to be correct). I was mad as hell. I was like "How can they get away with this? blah blah blah" Then I got over it. Not because I backed down or anything, but because after a few days of noticing those 2 defects every second, I got used to them. Just now, reading this post, I couldn't actually find them. I had to run a utility to find them.

If it will eat you up and bother you, return it. Otherwise, after a while, you will most likely get accustomed to it.

I'm from Perth Australia, that's where I got it from. If your from America you guys always get the best products first so I'm not sure why Australia has this model if you guys don't.

When I first got my LCD I found 2 dead pixels as well. Over time, it disappeared. I guess burning it in filled in the pixels. If it bothers you then return it.
