Man I didnt think it would be this bad. At 1024 theres ghosting around like everything. Damn but games are nice. Anyway how can I improve my situation or am I just stuck with this?

Fenix,

There are about 4 or 5 active threads on this very topic. I myself have a Hercules Prophet II 64mb that I just got as well, and I agree that the ghosting is absolutely horrible at all resolutions, especially when you're running an 85hz refresh.

Argh... people suggested new BNC cables (which I went and bought, cost me $55), people suggested that the monitor was bad, etc, but that wasn't it.

I think the nVidia chip is just very poorly made.

I don't think it has to do with the chip, I can go up to 1600x1200 without ghosting..

This problem seems isolated to Guillemot/Hercules boards. My CL is fine.

dammit this sucks. oh well check out my other post im gonna have to run 2 video cards🙂 i hate this board its hurting y eyes right now.

Yup, I had the cl gts also and 2d seemed beautiful...

I have the v5 5500 now and it's still beautiful up to 1280x1024x32 @ 85hertz refresh rate. 1600x1200x32 @ 70hertz refresh rate is horrible to my eyes...

This all have to do with your vid card as well as your monitor. I would say it's your vid card since I've heard a lot of horrible 2d quality for the prophet II 64mb...

It has nothing to do with the nvidia's chip, because I had the cl and it also used the new gts chip from nvidia and it was a beaut!

I would suggest returning it and get the cl gts for now and wait for a while for the next gen vid card...

scottie, at that low of a resolution you will not see any ghosting at all. Like I mentioned in another thread, even my S3 Trio 64v+ looks fine at that resolution/refresh.

See if you can't raise the resolution to 1280x1024 or 1600x1200 and look at the edges of letters or cursors.

Lore, I upped it to 1600 x 1200, 75 hz - the limit of what my monitor will do.

Boy, type sure is tiny at this setting! I don't like it! I'm getting too old!

Though I'm probably not as good a judge as most of you are, I don't see any test problems or ghosting at this setting. To try and see the "ghosts" that others are seeing, I looked at some 72-point type in Microsoft Word. Still looks OK to me.

I'm going back to 1024 x 768, but one thing I learned out of this - I'm gonna set my hz as high as possible on 1024 x 768, 'cause I can and it looks better at higher hz.

Good luck to all!

Lore, now that I've switched back to 1024 x 768, I've discovered something else - my type is SHARPER at 1600 x 1200 than it is at 1024 x 768, using the same method as I did in my previous post.

Still, normal text and icons are just too small for me at anything above 1024 x 768, so I'm headed back to 1024 x 768, but I'll set my hz at 100hz.

Interesting threads, I'm learning a lot! Thanks all of you!

Like I posted on another thread on this topic, If you look at the specs of this card, they are low compared to other GF2's, Even lower then Herc's GF/1 card. It seems Herc, now owned Gullimont(??) skimmped on filters this time around.

I got ghosting on my Herc 64mb GTS which isnt too bad. Had the same problem on my CL TNT2Ultra. Running a Sony GDM-F400 Monitor at 1280x1024 at 85Hz. Using a Belkin BNC Cable. Monitor is fine i think its just the Chip.

I have a CLAP2 and it has numerous desktop image quality problems. I get red shadows on window edges, but no where else. I get minor image corruption when moving my mouse around. Disabling the shadow decreased the problem, but it is still there. Anything above 800x600 looks blurry compared to my old G200 and even Millennium II. I have it currently hooked up to a Viewsonic P810, and I have a P815 here as well which exhibited the same problems, so it isn't a monitor problem.

No problems here!!! Perhaps you guys with the problem just got bad cards. Return it & try another one.

Muadlib:

I highly doubt it. I'm on my third Prophet II 64mb and I tried a brand new CLAP 2 last night and both brands exhibited ghosting at 1600x1200. People said the CLAP 2's are better made than their Guillemot brothers, but I do not agree.

If you would have gotten a voodoo5 5500 yall wouldn't be having this problem. I have the voodoo and it's great at all resolutions! HAHA
